Honestly, I think the political press might be too broken to save when your reaction to this is somehow blaming Dem messaging, especially when that same press does absolutely nothing to amplify it.

My favorite part was when noted Michigan politics-knower Michael Moore predicted Bernie would win every county in the 2020 Michigan primary. He was only off by … every county in Michigan.

It’s wild how deeply the media has run with the horserace of “DSA vs Establishment” when one of the “Establishment” candidates in the race was a Bernie-endorsed 2022 Senate candidate. It seems any Dem in good standing is “Establishment” even if they are “progressive” now.

This is going to be the dumbest Senate race in recent history, but I love that the goalposts are already shifting to blame the eStAbLiShMeNt if Platner loses.

This is how I learned about the long-shot challenger in the Ohio Congressional district that includes my hometown. He’s running a Bernie populist campaign, has raised hardly any cash in an uncompetitive (R+16) race, but he’s posting this to get social media follows.

This indicates that he’ll have trouble attacking Collins character or painting her as extreme, and also that those same attacks would land better on him. They also would say he needs to appear more moderate, which would absolutely fly in the face of the actual campaign he’s running.

This indicates that they have not done a good job of addressing the variety of controversies, even if they are broadly known. That 5 percent that “have not heard” about them will also be close to zero in November.

Reading that WSJ profile on Daniel Moraff, and he thinks voters don’t actually care about policy except for his two issues, which are “Medicare for All” and a willingness to say Israel is committing genocide. It’s actually bad to run a general election campaign from inside your DSA bubble.

It’s wild how many journalists and podcasters just accept and regurgitate things they see on their social media feeds as matters of fact. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing these takes about Mills from Platner supporters two months ago.

Just want to note that this is a right-wing meme about a woman who was upset because a woman wasn’t elected president for the first time, and Donald Trump was. And Klippenstein is a sad online conman who found a lane to profit on it all by being king of the shitposters, and he thinks it’s funny.

The thing about some of the biggest politics account here is that following them will sometimes make you dumber and understand politics less. Call 13 Republican senators if you want. Or just turn off the lights in your bathroom and say “impeach impeach impeach” three times in the mirror.

I’ve looked through most of Platner’s Reddit history several times a while back and found this post sorting for least popular. This isn’t new. This isn’t deep oppo research. I saw this on Al Gore’s internet months ago just knowing how to search.

This is somehow still less embarrassing than deciding Taylor Lorenz should have a byline to write this in 2025. Any good will Wired got for its excellent DOGE coverage has evaporated. And too-online journalists really need to understand this moment isn’t about them or their follower count.
