Aligning with Project 2025, which criticizes federal science programs for paying too much attention to climate change, the Trump administration is also tearing out a $368 million deep-ocean observation system along the Pacific and Atlantic Coasts that monitors marine ecosystems, coastal environments, and the ocean currents that affect climate change. Eric Niiler of the New York Times reported that the U.S. began operating the system in 2016 and expected it to continue for 25 years.

Democrats have pledged to fight the plan to tear out the observation system.

American Express avoided paying $423 million in taxes last year using the island
of Jersey. PayPal trimmed its taxes by nearly half during 2025 thanks to its units in
Singapore. Stanley Black & Decker cut its bill by $27 million — nearly one-third —
using the island of Cyprus.
A favorite destination was the tiny Mediterranean island of Malta, where Abbott
Laboratories, the pharmaceutical giant, has claimed all its global profits were
earned by a subsidiary with no employees. Malta helped the company cut its tax
bill by $336 million last year, the filings show.
Companies making similar moves spanned nearly every sector of the economy:
Walmart and Uber; Mastercard and Pepsi; Crocs and Merck; Honeywell and
Cigna. To put the $40 billion in taxes they avoided in perspective, it would be
enough to triple the annual budget of the Federal Aviation Administration or U.S.
Customs and Border Protection.

The White House is no longer the “People’s House,” it is a gilded Mar-a-lago. The Rose Garden and the East Wing are destroyed. Giant 88-foot flagpoles tower over the lawn. Gold paint is slathered everywhere. The symbol has been permanently damaged, at best.

The symbolic meaning of entire branches of government has been inverted. The Justice Department provides the opposite. The Civil Rights Division now protects criminals and elites. The Defense Department is now the Department of War.

The Bible has been converted to a branded marketing device, altered and reimagined in countless ways, from Trump’s own branded version for $60, to Pete Hegseth’s crusader edition with “Deus Vult” on the cover.

Jesus is not the Son of God, he is the Son of Fred. A decade of religious infiltration and corruption has allowed the least godly man in the world to claim divinity. The Pope is not the Vicar of Christ, he is a political opponent to be dominated.

The Capitol is not the voice of the people and the bulwark of democracy; it is a target—a hive of villainy and corruption that deserves violence. Trump’s pardoning of the domestic terrorists that tried to murder our representatives on January 6th was the symbolic capture of one of the most enduring symbols of the American Experiment.

With White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller directing immigration policy, alongside then–Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem and her associate Corey Lewandowski, ICE and Border Patrol agents terrorized people in American cities. Their regime eventually led to the shooting deaths of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota, Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Daniel Lippman of Politico reported today that the stress of his job—including dealing with Miller’s tirades—has led the acting head of ICE, Todd Lyons, to be hospitalized at least twice in the past seven months.

The SAVE America Act Trump wants is pretty openly a voter suppression measure: voting by undocumented immigrants is already virtually nonexistent, and it is already illegal. And the Brookings Institution reported in 2025 that only about four cases of mail fraud occur per 10 million mail-in ballots, or 0.000043% of total mail ballots cast. But Republicans are using the idea of voter fraud to argue for measures that could toss more than 21 million Americans off the voter rolls.

The Republicans won the House, the Senate, and the presidency in 2024, making it hard to argue that Republicans cannot win without new voting rules, but as G. Elliot Morris of Strength in Numbers noted today, since then Trump has lost the working-class white voters and Latino voters who put him in office. Republicans could woo them back but instead are trying to push voters off the rolls by demanding proof of citizenship to vote.

After Trump lifted sanctions on Russian oil that was already in ships, Democrats cried foul. At a Senate Armed Services Committee meeting yesterday, Senator Angus King (I-ME) said: “There is a clear winner in this war. The clear winner is Vladimir Putin and Russia. Estimates released a few hours ago are that Russia has reaped $6 billion of benefit from this war since it began just two weeks ago. That’s about $400 million a day from the increase in oil prices and the easing of sanctions, which is somewhat puzzling to me…. I just think the record should show that the real winner so far is Vladimir Putin to the tune of $6 billion in two weeks.”

According to Ellen Mitchell of The Hill, the U.S. is low on those weapons not because it has helped to supply Ukraine, but because it “blew through 25 percent of its stockpile over just a few days of operations against Iran in June 2025.” And before that operation, the U.S. military used $200 million worth of munitions in three weeks of attacks on the Houthis in Yemen, a bombing campaign that did little to change the Houthis’ behavior.

Trump was hosting a fund raiser at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, as the U.S. offensive began. The New York Times reported last November that tickets for the dinner dance were $1 million apiece. The optics of Trump partying with his rich cronies while American soldiers died is at least partly what is behind the fact that today, “#SendBarron” trended on social media.

Trump’s name is, in fact, all through the Epstein files, and the DOJ’s clumsy attempt to hide files that discuss him has only called attention to them. The recent news that the DOJ withheld files about allegations that Trump raped a 13-year-old girl has raised suggestions of an illegal coverup, whether the allegations are true or not.

Cole, administrator of the DEA, noting that “[t]he fact that Epstein was under investigation by the DOJ’s OCDETF task force suggests that there was ample evidence indicating that Epstein was engaged in heavy drug trafficking and prostitution as part of cross-border criminal conspiracy. This is incredibly disturbing and raises serious questions as to how this investigation by the DEA was handled.”
