Cassel hasn’t amplified her reasoning beyond the social media post and the Fox News interview.

She declined several requests to answer questions from the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Cassel arrived shortly before the start of Jan. 7 meeting of the Broward Legislative Delegation, but said she didn’t want to talk at that time. “Not right now. Not right now,” she said.

Shortly after 11 a.m. she stepped out of the room as the meeting was going on, and was buttonholed by Elaine Geller, a constituent who wanted to talk to her about changing the new state law requiring condominium associations to increase their financial reserves, something that’s causing financial hardship for many.

Geller, who ran for state representative in 2018, said she also told Cassel in that conversation that “her constituents are furious and we really would like her to resign.”

While they were talking, a reporter approached and Cassel said, “I have to get to work.” She went into a room marked “Delegation Members Only” and shut the door. When she emerged, she said, “not right now.”

Cassel also declined to answer questions after the meeting. “Not now. I’m good,” she said. As she walked away, she said to “call the office” and she’d be available. She did not respond to voice mails left at her office or on her cellphone or to a text message.
