This month our Archaeology Manager @stephenkay.bsky.social and Survey Technician Sara Fabbri are conducting geophysical prospection at the interethnic sanctuary and Roman town of Lucus Feroniae, a few kilometres north of Rome.

She visited us regularly and many of our residents benefited from her informative and enjoyable excursions across Rome, always led on foot and at a tremendous pace. Most recently she had joined our Ashby Patrons Scheme and was looking forward to a visit in the autumn. She will be much missed

A new season of excavations commenced this week at Falerii Novi! Over the next 4 weeks the joint BSR & ICS team will continue investigating the monumental building discovered last year.

Today the archaeology team is in heart of Naples, Piazza San Domenico, conducting GPR survey with the Università di Napoli Federico II and Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per il Comune di Napoli. The new study is investigating the ancient city walls of Neapolis!

Students from the City of Rome course at the British School at Rome step into the past, gathered in an ancient nymphaeum near the Colosseum—where history surrounds you and every stone has a story to tell!

It was a valuable opportunity to see firsthand the spaces where building materials for ancient Rome were extracted, offering a deeper understanding of the city’s architectural development and the practical realities behind its monumental construction.

They will also attend lectures as part of the public “City of Rome” lecture program. Welcome! ✨

The British School at Rome mourns the passing of Paola Pelagatti (1926–2026), a towering figure in Italian archaeology and an Honorary Fellow of the BSR. Her pioneering work and enduring commitment to cultural heritage leave a profound legacy.

✨ Next week at the Swedish Institute in Rome ✨ Prof. Raphaële Mouren, BSR Head of Research Collections, will take part in the conference "Object Lessons: Knowledge Organization and Antiquity in Institutional Teaching Collections", where she will present the Roman Society Project.
