My wife and I stopped our car to pick up a female cardinal who had been passed over by a large truck. We got her into a cardboaed box. On the way to the vet she called out, perhaps for her her mate. Nearly made my cry.

So sorry about your friend. Here is a photo I took of a crow in a pecan tree. I don't know if it was an American crow or a fish crow. We hear both in our neighborhood.
