accordionist, music theorist. Austin, TX. I like to ride my bicycle.
I got a tariff refund on my accordion, came a couple of days ago! Not a refund for everything (extra charges for holding the item in customs, etc.), but a solid chunk. Woohoo!
This is what an accordion looks like to airport security—not surprising they often flag it for a second look. Amsterdam, here I come!
A bus stop in the winter where you can see images of recently departed riders.
@honktx.bsky.social + #NoKings = a great combo in Austin! Thanks to the Good Trouble Brass Band for lending their music to the protest!
Solid reply from the photographer on the Vanity Fair piece: Stephen Miller notes that Anderson has the power to be kind in his photographic choices, and Anderson replies, "you know, you do, too."
My fave is this one, lives rent-free in my head: "Roundtable: Life Begins at Conception vs. Life Begins at 40!"
Nothing says "fresh and clean" like pumpkin-pie scented dish soap.
Update: Cincinnati is my new accordion's home. Well, until Customs clears it. Fingers crossed for a smooth process.
She's on her way, boys! DHL says delivery Monday the 13th, let's see what happens.
I'm so pleased to finally have this book in my hot little hands! You, too, can have this feeling—for 30% off!—with code AUFLY30 at global.oup.com/academic. Want to try before you buy? You can read the Intro for free at this link (available until October 30): academic.oup.com/book/60725/c...
Ahhh, yes. Austin: the widely acknowledged southern tip of Chicagoland. Wrigleyville *way* south.
And the result is, well, quite bright! Somewhere between cheerful and unhinged:
Color advice needed! We have to repaint our house. Got any preference on these colors? The tiles will stay, but all of the trim/siding/doors will be repainted.
Packing for a six-day bikepacking trip with my pal Micaela. Most of this will go onto the bike (which is currently in the cardboard box). San Juan Islands, here we come!
Cover art for my book is in! Excited to see this coming together, with Tarsila do Amaral's "Sol Poente" on the front. Available for pre-order now, shipping from Oxford University Press in September! global.oup.com/academic/pro...
While the front side is accordion performers, the backside is all makers. It's a town with so many accordion builders, it's stunning. I've never seen roadside signs advertising reed manufacturers until this week...
Yes! Just decided today. Going to get a Brandoni similar to this one (but with 96 bass), should arrive in October. Very reasonably priced, customized to my settings, and a really fabulous trip—highly recommend.
In Castelfidardo accordion shopping, and man, this place is intense about accordions
In case you need a change of pace right now, take in this picture of a winner.
Some pals host an annual Peeps diorama contest at Easter. Some highlights from this year: Dodgers beat the Yankees in the bottom of the ninth, Taylor Swift Eras tour with duck audience, and Peeps clown carnage.
Got it in my hot little hands at last! So grateful to @pch9857.bsky.social, @kategalloway.bsky.social, and Christa Bentley for the work of putting it all together! In my TSwift Era, obvs.
