The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police, Sir Stephen Watson, has thanked security staff and worshippers at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue for their bravery.
Police have confirmed that an attack at a Crumpsall synagogue, which left two people dead and three seriously injured, is being treated as a "terrorist incident". Two arrests have been made and police say they "know the identity of the suspect". 📷PA Wire/Peter Byrne
New Scotland Yard Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor called the incident "an appalling attack". He said that police believe "they know the identity of the suspect" and have made two arrests. It has been declared a terrorist incident. 📷PA
A man who lives on White House Avenue, close to the synagogue said he saw 2 men in handcuffs being led away. The man, who did not want to be identified, told the PA news agency: “They’ve arrested two people.” He said he did not know the men or which house they were linked to.
The attack saw high-profile figures release statements of shock, including King Charles III and the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer
A suspect was shot by armed officers at the scene. GMP initially said the suspect was "believed to be deceased" - this couldn't be confirmed due to "safety issues surrounding suspicious items on his person". It has since been confirmed the suspect has died. 📷Peter Byrne/PA
Two people have died as a result of the incident, and three others are seriously injured, after a car ploughed into people entering the synagogue, before a man was stabbed. North West Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene alongside GMP officers. 📷PA
