Sometimes the universe works in very funny ways to line things up perfectly.

You never know what you can find at the dog park. Like when one of our pups found a turtle at the park! They were very excited. I was terrified the turtle would not be timid. Thankfully everything worked out very well!

Fukuyama outlines 2 distinct threats to liberalism. One is coming from the right, based on people in power. He gives real examples! The other is the left, and "mostly applies in cultural settings." We just gloss over whatever the fuck that means. So there's 1 threat, and 1 annoyance.

Part of an interview with Francis Fukuyama, conducted by Sergio C. Fanjul of EL PAÍS:

Fanjul: Is there a risk of moving towards an illiberal world?

Fukuyama: There are 2 separate threats right now. The most severe one is from a resurgent populist nationalism that's represented by Orban in Hungary, by Edrogan in Turkey, by Modi in India, by Trump in the United States. All of these people were legitimately elected but they use their legitimacy to threaten illiberal institutions. They want to eliminate the independent court system, they want to shut down opposition media, they [weaponize] the justice system to go after their political opponents. Then, there's a separate threat coming from the left, which mostly applies in cultural settings, because you don't have a left that's come to power in quite the same way, at least in Eupore and North America. In Latin America, it's different, because you do have a populist left that has behaved in a very similar authoritarian way in Venezuela & Nicaragua.

Thank you for reminding me to buy my ticket for this weekend! My screening is for Saturday at 11:30 am & I'm buying on Wednesday evening. If I counted correctly there are 52 seats (incl. Wheelchair spaces) w/15 already purchased. Not bad at all for week 2!

Recently we found out that the local Tractor Supply has a pet bathing area. Our Husky loves water, unless/until it involves a bath. His protesting could be heard at the far end of the store.
