While it is true that planting bamboo near data centers would destroy concrete, pipe, and other critical infrastructure, the damage to the environment is detrimental. When bamboo is planted it will create something called an ecological "dead zone" because bamboo forms hyper dense monocultures that completely block out sunlight. This prevents native seeds, grasses, and hardwood saplings from ever germinating, even native pollinators and local birds won't even go in there according to a study from clemson university. another problem with planting bamboo is that it would destroy local watershed. bamboo root networks aggressively alter the soil's bacteria fungal balance. In the Piedmont and blue Ridge regions of Upstate SC, escaped bamboo can choke out native riparian plants along creeks and riverbanks, altering natural water flow patterns and stripping the bank of stability causing crazy fast erosion. unlike native plants, bamboo drops a slow decomposing leaf litter that very much ruins the topsoil for future native growth. If it gets into local family farms, pastures, or managed forestry plots, it chokes out young cash crops like loblolly pines. bamboo cannot be easily killed by simply mowing or cutting it. eradication requires years of intense herbicide application, deep excavation, or heavy machinery. so please, think before you give any one ideas.
