Me & @dwindlingbeth.bsky.social went to a grief ceremony for local trees killed by the microburst last month. As we all prepared to begin, a rainbow greeted us.
the idea that a renowned professor of classical literature is merely a technical subject matter expert at most
why are we pretending Wilson didn't write a salient, insightful film review? I've seen a few posts from men today talking about Wilson's review like all she's doing is nitpicking from her scholarly lane, but that can only be your take if you didn't really read it.
improv'd some five-spice glazed pork belly the other night; waiting for the heatwave to break so I can make it again. Thorne said it tasted like Ting Wong (our fav roast meats over rice spot in Philly's Chinatown), which is a compliment high that I'm still riding.
this horrifying chart is for Virginia hospitals, but Weisenfeld also finds documents from sanitarium directors in other southern states talking about how the numbers of Black persons institutionalized for insanity has rapidly increased; explicitly these stats were used to argue against Black freedom
Struck by early chapters here where Weisenfeld proves how prominent the words "barbaric/barbarism" were in the post-Reconstruction discourse b/w politicians & the press about Black persons using ancestral religiosities & ritual technologies in their [often syncretic-Christian] religious practices
my last brew of what might be the best coffee I've had so far this year. Finished this bag at its peak (6.5 weeks from its roast date). Tasted like gooseberry and chrysanthemum tea and a bit of dulche de leche & passionfruit underneath. What a blessing to be able to splurge on a coffee like this.
also look how neat this Wawa sign is! & how cute my partner @dwindlingbeth.bsky.social 's smile is!
Rest in peace to poet Ryan Bollenbach, who lost his life to ALS yesterday. He was only 37 years old. Ryan was in the University of Alabama's MFA program with me, where we were both BWR section editors. He went on to Houston, where he edited Gulf Coast. May the Earth recieve you well, Ryan.
I've been interested to see if this would happen, and here it is. Stacy Garrity, the Republican campaign for Pennsylvania governor, is now running against data center development, and is looking to make anger on this issue stick to Josh Shapiro like glue.
Happy May Day, hail to the workers, and hail to the spirits of liberation
