somebody ordered a meatball sub on my first shift at subway when I was 16, but we ran out of meatballs before I came in. I assumed the crumbly bits of leftover ground beef suspended in marinara were the "meatballs," which I put on some bread and asked if they wanted veggies it haunts me to this day
