I read Alien: The Illustrated Story when I was 14 and still think it better than the film it adapted

And the Kupperberg run- the first 18 issues of vol 2 (pre-Morrison) a Suicide Squad crossover social and this highlight (featuring the first appearance of Ambush Bug) I imagine it’ll make an entire volume of a DC Finest collection. Nice art but not a brilliant run- although better than Byrne

It always needs to be remembered that 60’s marvel had very limited colour options (less than contemporary DC Comics, iirc) and the original colours were far more subdued when printed. I can’t find the Kraven page in particular but this is a good example of the difference between digital and printed

Pick a Bond villain from the photos you already have on your phone.

Mr Noseybonk, a children’s tv character who appeared in the educational program Jigsaw from the late 70’s/early 80’s who was disturbing as anything and mentally scarred its viewers for life. He was a man wearing a white mask with mad staring eyes, a manic grin and an incredibly long, cartoonish nose who looked like he’d murder you in your sleep. This is a sure-fire hit as it contains all of these popular elements:
• Circa 1974 clothing and hair-styles
• Bizzarre speech patterns, unrecoginsable by any member of any culture on the planet
• A smart white friend to help them out of the trouble they get into
• They're heroes who could be you (if you were black, I mean...)
• They're on Skateboards!
• They have an attractive, white female friend to calm them down when they get too excited.

Face it Pilgrim, this one's got it all!!!

RIP Gerry Conway- responsible for writing a lot of good comics (not least his original Amazing Spider-Man run) but my first real encounter with him, and still amongst my favourites of his works, was Cinder and Ashe, superbly illustrated by Jose Garcia Lopez

Jim Starlin’s Captain Marvel run which saw him battling with Thanos over the Cosmic Cube and gave us pages like this: (It’s technically an event as well, although I think it only crossed over with Daredevil and the Avengers. And possibly Iron Man)

A page from Captain Marvel by Jim Starlin that is incredibly difficult to put into words. It features 10 separate panels broken up into four rows of 2, 3, 4 and then 1. The first 2 panels depict the distortion of reality, with perspective bending and the speech bubbles doing likewise, as Thanos becomes a god, and the universe is engulfed by his madness. The next 3 panels start with a speech bubble demanding that Captain Marvel “—DIE!” And so he does, in these and the next 4 panels by rapidly aging to death. But the third row of 4 panels show an aged and decrepit Captain launching himself at the Cosmic Cube that is powering Thanos’ madness intending to strike it with a karate chop. He does so and the final panel, stretching the width of the page, shows a figure silhouetted in an explosion on a rooftop.

For maximum effect think of the star gate sequence from 2001: A Space Odessey.

2000ad- I'm old enough that my first issue was prog 1, but young enough so that it disturbed me enough that I was too scared to read it again for a while. But from this issue on I was a regular, and fortunate enough to back track and find earlier progs
