On Fathers Day, remembering all those no longer with us. The images attached are of a postcard Fathers Day card from my late grandmother Ethel Moss (née Collett) written when she was about 7 years old in 1907, to her father O. O. Collett, jeweller, watchmaker, inventor, car-builder in Bampton, Oxon

Fathers Day postcard (front) showing a young Edwardian girl playing ‘horsey’ riding on her fathers back whilst he is on all-fours on the carpet. They are in a front room with bookcase and bay window, playing next to the sofa. It is a photographic print in black & white. He appears to have a leopard rug on his back. The girl has loose ringletted hair and is wearing a child’s dress typical of the period (circa 1907). There is a poem beneath the image which reads:

“THERE AINT ANOTHER DADDY IN THE WORLD LIKE MINE,”
I love Daddy, my dear Daddy,
And I know that he loves me,
He’s my playmate rain or shine,
There ain’t another Daddy in the world like mine.

On the reverse of the Fathers Day postcard my late grandmother who must have been about seven years old at the time (circa 1907) judging from the large childish handwriting has written “With love and best wishes from Ethel to Dad.” on the correspondence half of the card. In the address section Ethel has written “Mr Collett, Bampton, Oxon.”

Pollarded tree now with Alt text

Old pollarded tree with rounded clumps of old trunk at the base, making it look like the tree is sitting on a pile of wooden cannon balls. The tree has burst through the stone retaining wall of the slope that grows against, starting to encroach on the main road it lives next to (Gibraltar, below the Rock Hotel on Europa Road)
