Cat waits at a bus stop checking his phone while Girl walks by selling newspapers. 'EXTRA EXTRA' she shouts, 'Read all about it in the Poo York Times. A newspaper you can read on the toilet!' She hands Cat a section of the newspaper. 'P Magazine' he reads. 'All your favorite sections!' says Girl. 'This is 90% ads for toilet paper' says Cat, continuing to read. 'All your favorite features! And weirdly -' Cat interrupts. 'That I can't afford.' '-higher ethical standards than the New York Times.' Cat becomes enraged. 'There's TOO MUCH going on in the world to WASTE TIME with this POTTY HUMOR!' 'If you don't want to laugh read Metropolitan Diarrhea' says Girl, handing Cat another section. 'Blech' he says.

TOOT TOOT The All the Butter truck drives by, driven by Mr. Monopoly, who is laughing. Cat and Girl looks at each other. Girl starts to eat. 'I don't need butter' says Girl. What's the point!?!?!

Cat and Girl wade deeper and deeper into the sea. 'And to bring up children in the ways of a dead world!' continues Girl. 'Hustling them through test prep and extracurriculars - hoping to secure one of the last spots - in a meritocracy that is winking out of existence. Seeing all those sharing your burden only as COMPETITION.' They are now fully submerged but walk on. 'What difference lies between that and a Black Friday fight over a TV at Best Buy? Save twenty years and one tock along the socioeconomic scale.' 'Well you don't get a new TV' complains Cat. They arrive at an underwater suburban home with the lights on and go inside. It may be their house. Cat grabs a remote control and tuns to face the television in the living room. 'But the KIND of TV you have isn't as important as what you can SEE on it!' he says. He clicks. Click click click. The TV turns on. CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK. The screen shows nothing but light.

What's the point!?!

Cat and Girl are spending a Sunday afternoon on the island of La Grande Jatte. 'Believe in education begins as a practical step,' says Girl. 'A potential pathway to a higher standard of living. The education itself becomes a virtue - isn't it GOOD to learn? To be curious about the world? Then you look around - at the most successful people in society - and see society's most self-satisfied, least curious members - with thoughts only for their own dominance - so why learn ANYTHING if it doesn't directly benefit me? Am I just a SUCKER?' They now look out across the island's far shore, and then walk into the waves. 'Yet I still believe,' continues Girl, 'even if the beliefs is negative - even if it's a relic - the Edwardian women still wearing a bustle when the rest of the world has moved on.

'I was here when the Googles and Facebooks met gods from distant lands,' Girl continues, 'and relied on their self-imposed codes of honor to claim a higher moral ground. And I was here when the power in reviewing returned - when a strangers livelihood rested on how many stars I gave a driver or delivery - when anything less than perfect marks meant - not imperfect service - but wishing harm upon others - being made complicit in blackmail. And the only power you hold - any of us hold - is the power to PUNISH - not the gods - but each other. And I'll be here for the final battle, when the gods' failure to live by their own ideals leads their internet to collapse in a miasma of fire and serpent. And after all of those gods have perished, and the world begins anew. Want to get pizza?' 'Where?' Cat asks.

'I review things on the internet!' says Girl. 'I'm basically like a minor god. I was here when the heavens were torn asunder and the first giants appeared. And I was an active participant in a mailing list discussion about the best pizza in New York. I just really love this one place! More people should go there! I was here when the giants tore out chunks of their own flesh to create the internet. And I reviewed every restaurant I ate at for a website of restaurant reviews - which felt helpful! And have me a sense of expertise - and of power - I was here when the children of the giants - fine-featured, gold-clad Googles and Facebooks - turned on their parents and killed them and claimed the internet as their own. And as more people left reviews they melded together into CONTENT and I was just doing WORK for FREE. And the reviews were pulled into aggregators to be pulped alongside thousands of others, stripped of personal histories and nuance and reconstituted as a single number.'

'Who made the pyramids?' asks Girl, bathed in the light of a landscape on fire and pushing a boulder. 'Some guy who came up with the idea, or all the workers laboring day after day - putting the stones into place. It's a WORK of art - a LABOR of love. The meaning is created in the doing!' The boulder rolls down the hill. 'One must enter a prompt to generate an image of Sisyphus, happy' says Cat. 'It's a living' says Girl.
