At the beaches where I often surf in Southern CA it is now common to see sea turtles. 🌊 🐢 When I was a kid that never happened. The ocean is much warmer. Today is #ShowYourStripes day. Get yours here: www.ShowYourStripes.info

Western Red Rattlesnake on the trail in Laguna Beach. What a beauty! 🐍
Found many dead Cormorants on Crystal Cove State Park beach in Southern CA today. Probably a dozen in a 2.5 mile stretch. Maybe marine heat wave or avian flu?? 🤷♂️ Anyone know why?
Yesterday at the @surfrider.org all staff retreat we saw a 🐢 sea turtle 🦭 a seal lion 🦈 a juvenile great while shark breach 🐬🐬dolphins, and 🐋 a whale go by San Onofre State Beach. An incredible display of ocean wildlife right off shore. Definitely worth protecting! #theoceanneedsmorefriends
When I was a kid growing up in coastal Southern California, my brother and I would lie in bed with asthmatic coughs on smoggy summer days. And we lived in a town where the air quality was better than most places.
In the fall of 2020 I had the unique experience to spend the day at the Surf Ranch with @bobweir and Jerry Lopez at an event supporting Surfrider.
I spent 3 days in Chicago in mid-July for the Aspen Ideas Climate conference. It was my first visit to Chicago in 30 years. I was struck by how beautiful, clean, and park rich it was, and how friendly people were. I walked around day & night and felt safe.
I wonder if he understands how his phone works when it’s not plugged in?
It’s true. I wish there were more surfy stuff here. Here’s a shot of my son at Teahupo’o.
Little known fact: America has more public waters than public lands. oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/eez.html
I asked ChatGPT what the CA coast would look like without the California Coastal Act and this is what it produced. I think it’s fairly accurate.
Thanks DOGE. EWR is a complete mess due to malfunctions & FAA shortages. abc7ny.com/amp/post/new...

Bikeways to Hell. I love bike paths, just not the ones designed to fall into the ocean. www.linkedin.com/pulse/bikewa...
I highly recommend Fire Weather by @johnvaillant.bsky.social He tells a compelling story about the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire and the world of climate change-driven fire we are now living in. It essentially foreshadows the LA fires.
LA County has a larger population than 40 states! We can get a lot of good work done at the local level.
According to 2022 OBM documents the government spent ~$170 billion on natural resource management in a $9.8 trillion dollar budget or 1.7%. This is about efficiency, but not govt efficiency. It’s about efficiently exploiting our public natural resources for private gain.
I put together this “Songs for the Resistance” play list. Many of the songs seem prescient, which goes to show these fights are not new. There’s probably too much Rage Again The Machine (mood). Please suggest any songs to add! open.spotify.com/playlist/0D4...
The first CA poppy to spring up in our front yard. Looking for inspiration in nature.
