The village down there is called Oberstdorf. It’s the most southern village in Germany. One mountain away is Austria. Holiday apartm.up here where we’re staying (3km) are a third cheaper for the same length of time. Got bikes and running gear with me. See if some holiday time gets a reset going :)
There’s a massive ski jump here where World Championships are often held (winter obviously!) 2031 the next WC here I think. Top left of photo someone parachuting off the top of the mountain 🙈😅

We were woken at 3am to thunderstorms and WIND and rain and the ability to get all the hot air out of the house 🙏🏻 a pleasant week and hoping the end of next week doesn’t get any ‘worse’ than Wednesday 😅 If the night cools down like it’s showing we’ll be fine! 🙏🏻
The luxury of living in a country that has shutters on the outside of windows as a standard fitting means we are fortunate that downstairs is always cool. Usually the upstairs stays tolerable & only the attic rooms above need a ventilator to sleep.. but this heatwave is exceptional. A/C needed!
This is my lifesaver WFH , piled on the mess that is my desk .. it’s not cooling the room but it’s cooling me so I’m good right now 👍🏻 hung the washing on the line half an hour ago think I can get it back in already 😂

Woke up today to the realisation that I *forgot* to play Wordle yesterday and my 403 streak is gone 😱 The heat has melted my brain. Chasing the 422 from my previous streak.. I was almost there 😭

Got my head hanging out the window catching a post-storm breeze during the obligatory German morning ritual of “Lüften” (“Airing” : open all the windows in your house wide first thing to clear heat & stale air from the day before)
No Sunday lie-in for me! 5am thunderstorm put paid to that.So much lightning ⚡️ No critical alert ‘danger to life’ alarms going off on our phones this time though- unlike Friday evening! A ‘normal’ storm this morning, 45 mins later it’s moving away.Friday was unreal, a solid 5 hours overhead.
The ‘passing thunderstorm’ mentioned in the text of my last weather update has now been overhead for THREE hours. Continuing until midnight, according to weather app. Heavy rain. So much lightning. So many sirens (fire brigade) . The cat is bored of it now.
Agreed. My cousins in Wales grew up without a tv. We had the best times at their house as we were always playing. No one even missed it.. I’ve bought myself a ‘brick’ device to curb the distractions as the endless scroll is just too damn easy to waste my time on 🙈 it works though! 1/2
