Question: Compared to Link and Zelda, Ganon has always been prone to the most creative reimagining across from game to game. Who did you want this Ganon to be? And the second half of this question — I’ve heard you guys talking about people’s reactions to Sidon, so I have to ask: what sorts of discussions did you have internally about this Ganon’s aesthetics? Why is he so attractive?

Answer, Hidemaro Fujibayashi: With Ganon, this design really started with Twilight Princess. There’s a staffer [Satoru Takizawa] who’s been in charge of Ganon’s design since Twilight Princess, and Ganon holds a really special place in this staffer’s heart. [laughing]

From my perspective, of course there’s the understanding that Ganondorf is, of course, the evil antagonist, but he also plays almost as important a role as the main hero who stand in contrast to each other as part of this legend. So my only request I made was that because he’s such an important character at the same level as the protagonist, was to really make him a very cool, very awesome demon king.

Aside from it coming from the same director who dreamt up Alive in Joburg — an imaginative exercise in using VFX to explore ideas about apartheid-era bigotry — there’s nothing remarkable about Nightborne. Blomkamp’s creative voice feels almost nonexistent as the short’s story unfolds, and if Seedance 2.0 wasn’t part of the equation, people probably wouldn’t be talking about it.

The idea for this kind of piecemeal analytical workflow first came to Wood — who also serves as Quilty’s CTO — a few years back when he was being sued over a real estate matter. Rather than spending money on an attorney, Wood fired up ChatGPT, which promptly told him “I’m not a lawyer; go find someone else to help you.”

“Then I went to Gemini, which worked a lot better for a while, because I had a larger context window,” Wood recounted. “But then I was on X, and saw stupid Elon Musk talking about Grok getting the best lawyer score ever for an AI model, and I was like, ‘Let me check that out.’” (Wood did not detail how that legal dispute worked out.)

"CGI Fridays" slowly, but surely becoming my favorite new vocal stim

To ease viewers into the show’s fantasy and its dark sense of humor, Bernes thought that it was important for Lindy’s dollhouse to be a fully realized set that Banks could physically interact with. And while VFX would be necessary to depict characters’ size differences, Bernes was keen on keeping the series from feeling like too much of a “CGI Fridays” situation.

“When we’re inside the dollhouse, that is a real set that we built based on the dimensions and specs of a real toy,” Bernes told me. “We actually scanned objects from a real dollhouse, blew them up into a larger scale, and then had them made so that we could use life-size versions of these tiny things.”
