A drought you say? Parched earth? Let me introduce you to summer al fresco dining Swedish summer style
Impressive ferry-fed loyalty to the paper edition of Svenska Dagensblat in the Stockholm Archipelago
Sweden and Scotland are two countries with stunning landscapes and a history of innovation. Why haven't they sorted the midge issue? Or is it simply they want to keep their wonderful wet wildernesses to themselves?
Just want to say that from my experience this weekend in the Highlands, air conditioning is not an issue in Scotland
Two very contrasting swims this weekend at either end (sort of) of the Lea Valley
Also on show some great sculptures by TienAn Ng inspired by Limehouse Chinese culture
Excellent exhibition at St Anne's Limehouse on the area's Chinese community history and racist myth-making share.google/JtheZAVNkP0Q...
The idea of attention is at the heart of journalism practice and studies right now - but we still think of it in very limited ways such as time spent or as a mechanism for engagement and monetisation. We are also very conservatively judgemental about how long people attend to something. 1/2
Anjet Daanje's Remembered Soldier is an incredible book. A densely written, compelling story about a war veteran who loses his memory and has to recover a life. A profound meditation on love, time, memory and identity. Most fascinating and moving thing I've read for years
Can't wait to update my LSE journalism Summer School students on the latest manifestation of British (London?) political reporting
The new Sea Lanes pool and sauna at Canary Wharf is rather good. Easy to use. Not too busy. Great setting. Very cooling on a day like today, though not as cold as Aldeburgh....
Those stones are so poignant. Here's one from a recent trip to the Outer Hebrides. An 18 year old Able Seaman from Uist who died on New Year's Day 1919
So much nature, art, and, it seems, a lot of artisanal local gin alongside the music
Superb evening of mythical music at Aldeburgh tonight. If you've never been, come to this charming centre for innovative, quality music learning and performance set in the midst of Suffolk's coastal country www.brittenpearsarts.org/landing-page...
Lessons from artisanal gin for journalism. Everywhere I go now around the world there's a local gin infused with whatever weird herb they have. People love it. Niche and not a competitor for Diageo but vibrant and creative
World Cup themed post: I have just cycled past what FIFA once listed as one of “8 most remarkable places to play football in the world” in Eriskay 🏆
I loved this slide on the range of skills journalists are new expected to have according to LI vacancy adverts. Before journalists complain about AI or influencers, I suggest they check how their competencies measure up to those now necessary to compete in the current and future information world
This report is must-read for any news executive. lnkd.in/ehEAweBE
Thank you to all the speakers, organisers and wonderful audience at the Nordic AI Summit: this is the avant garde but also very grounded - it's a powerful network of journalism innovators that you need to follow #NAMS26
The organisation of the move into breakout sessions at NAMS is distinctly low-fi and non-AI
Great to be back at the Nordic AI in Media Summit in Copenhagen: it's a cutting edge gathering of AI pioneers that reflects how the adoption of AI has progressed in the last few years towards 'glimpses of transformation' #NAMS26
The Lisbon Metro is spacious, efficient, regular, cheap and has some great art. But I can't find any explanation online of these Lady Godiva type murals at what was our local station, Campo Pequeno. Any ideas?
Delighted to lecture at ISCTE in Lisbon tonight - good to be back physically (since 2018!) to take some very good and big questions
And a wonderful encore of Williams' Schindler's List theme. An unusually political concert for the Barbican...
