I run, bake, and make things. I also teach elementary kids art stuff.
Then we add the filling. I didn’t take a photo because it wasn’t the most appealing looking. Here are the assembled dumplings ready to be fried and steamed. They get like a 30 second fry and then you add water to the pan and let them steam for 7 minutes.
For ‘Try Something New Tuesday,’ I made garlic chive and shrimp dumplings completely from scratch! First up is the dumpling dough. It’s made from 3 starches: wheat, tapioca, and corn. It was a very satisfying dough to make. It almost feels like play dough.
I was inspired by my race last weekend to find other paths around lakes. Today I tried out the path near my son’s summer camp. It was nice to have a lake to gaze at whilst running. No alligator sightings but so many birds. 🏃♀️
Thanks to the great clean out of my sewing room, I’ve uncovered some fun activities. Today we played with the Spirograph Kit I got for Christmas a few years ago.
So things haven’t gone as planned this summer. It’s finally time to finish working on my space. I’m about to vacuum this for the first time in a decade at least! Not gonna lie, I expected to find so many more pins in the carpet!
I was hoping to take a minute off the last race time, but I held my pace and took off 3 minutes! I hit a 35 minute 5k! Woo! 🏃♀️
A perk of being a runner in Central Florida is that nearly every race involves a lake.
In addition, I finally remembered to start the bread a day early so I could do the slow overnight raise. It made a huge difference!
Sharing the road with garbage trucks was fun this morning! Working on switching to morning running so it’s theoretically cooler. 🏃♀️
Beach Day! Hooray! The waves are calm, the breeze is just right, and the storm is staying on the horizon.
The final step was a hot water bath for canning. The jars were filled and then boiled in a huge pot for ten minutes. Now they should be shelf stable for awhile. We will likely give away most of these jars to neighbors.
Steps to get to boiling the peaches included: 1. Blanch peaches 2. Peal peaches 3. Cut up peaches 4. Mix in sugar, pectin, and lemon juice. 5. Boil!
Today I am using up the last of my peach truck peaches today. Well, I have a few more to eat. These are the last I am cooking.
The chores list is finally done! It’s been awhile since I’ve had the energy to complete the entire list in one day!
We’ve discovered LEGO kit 31140 has so many alternative building options! @mictlan.bsky.social bought us each a kit and we chose a design we liked. Rather than a unicorn, sea horse, or a duck, we have a sea uniturtle, a dragon, and a space shuttle.
Despite the threatening thunder, the giant storm clouds on the horizon did not do as promised and fill in the rest of the sky. So my run was much sunnier and hot than anticipated. I opted to cut the last mile and head home. Still got 3.3 miles today. 🏃♀️
Due to an impending storm, the splash pad and kiddos rides were closed so we cut the visit a little short and ended with the primates! And a dragon!
Following a quick lunch, we made it to Africa and enjoyed a Safari ride.
So I got distracted and forgot to post more about the zoo! Next, we visited Australia where everything was asleep!
While I didn’t quite reach my running goal for June, I’m still pleased with my 81 miles for the month. 🏃♀️
And then the rains came 5k Before storm running Pros: 1. Temps drop (most of the time) 2. A good breeze 3. Faster pace Cons: 1. Gale force winds 2. Storm gets here faster than expected Today I had a 2 minute buffer before the rains actually came.
Our trusty folding wagon of 12ish years has given up the ghost. So I took the opportunity to get a wagon with sand friendly wheels. Only they arrived looking like a square!
We have a couple of fairly large sized curly tailed lizards that have taken up residence on our back porch. We’ve been feeding them grapes for a few months. Today, this guy came up and stared me down until I provided a grape snack.
Maybe the White House should get some tips from LEGOLAND about how to keep the reflecting pool clean.
Yet another failed attempt to visit the local waterpark. I haven’t even been in the water yet. My son at least got 3 minutes of water fun. We are giving it 5 more minutes.
I spotted a @chucktingle.bsky.social book in the wild today. It’s on a display of horror novels at my local library.
Yesterday was baking day! One of yesterday’s bakes was Strawberry Shortbread Cookies with an icing drizzle. They aren’t bad but I think they could use a bit more strawberry flavor. I’d up the freeze dried strawberry amount if I make them again. #cookieparty
