Too much/too little water look similar: floppy plant, browning leaves. Plunging your finger into the soil isn't always a reliable indicator of whether deep roots are drowning. If you struggle to figure it out, buy a water meter, about 40cm. Plunge it as deep as you reckon the roots are.
