In addition to how the article is written (like the reporter knows more than she can disclose), it's this paragraph which makes me think it probably is him. He looked slimmer than normal a year or two back, but it eventually appeared as if he'd stopped whatever he'd been doing.

I can't get over this part: "Asked about those remarks, a Platner campaign official did not dispute them." The campaign disputed other allegations in the NYT report, but not that one.

During one argument, she recalled, he twisted her arm behind her back, shoved her into a bedroom and held the door closed from the other side so she couldn’t get out, telling her to remain there until she was “calm.” Eventually, Ms. Fifield said, she fell asleep and left the next morning.
“It hurt,” she said. But she added: “It didn’t cause an injury, it didn’t break my arm.”
Mr. Platner “strongly disputes” any claims of physical intimidation or altercations, his campaign said. The Times could not independently corroborate Ms. Fifield’s account of the altercations.

Ms. Fifield also recalled that Mr. Platner’s displays of weaponry and discussions of violence sometimes left her uneasy.
She said he kept an AR-15 lying around his apartment on Capitol Hill, and would sharpen an ax — a relic from his time working on the Appalachian Trail before he enlisted in the Marines — while watching television.

He had what she described as a “warrior ethos” and would fantasize about killing people he deemed a threat, she said. She said he told her that rape was about power.
It was something that stuck with her through the years, Ms. Fifield said.
“He said this a lot: If anybody ever broke in here, I would rape them,” she recalled, saying that he added that it would not be in “a sexual way, not in a gay way.”
“He was like, I would rape them to show them that I’m dominant,” she said.
Asked about those remarks, a Platner campaign official did not dispute them. A friend who knew Mr. Platner and Ms. Fifield during that period said the comments sounded out of character.
Mr. Platner, who had overlapping relationships with other women while he and Ms. Fifield dated, also referred to women as “hatchet wounds,” Ms. Fifield said, a crude term for female anatomy.

“They literally, deliberately, selected it because it was relevant to their military unit,” she said.
Mr. Platner “strongly disputes” Ms. Fifield’s account of what he knew about the tattoo and what he told her, his campaign said.
His campaign noted that he had not hidden his tattoo since receiving it, taking off his shirt in photos, at the beach and at the gym.

“I’ve lived my entire life like a regular person with a skull and crossbones on their chest,” he said on a liberal podcast in October, after showing video of him dancing shirtless at his brother’s wedding. “At no point in this entire experience of my life did anybody ever once say, ‘Hey, you’re a Nazi.’”
In a private chat group last summer, months before Mr. Platner acknowledged the tattoo himself, Ms. Fifield told friends that her ex-boyfriend-turned-Senate candidate “has a Nazi tattoo on his chest.”

Yup. The AI graphic layout doesn't flow, though. The arrows are in a clockwise circle, while the number are laid out left/right—top/bottom (& I think the steps are misnumbered). To add rather than detract, the arrows should mimic the path of the numbered items. Also that's a bad AI depiction of T.

I've always had terrible sleep habits. My worst one: I can't sleep the night before I have to go somewhere. Big storms also hit me like that though, even though all I have to do is stay hunkered down. FWIW, the snow north of Boston is in earnest now. Streets went from patchy to blanketed in 1 hour.

I deeply enjoyed your piece. I nodded along at your last couple of paragraphs and footnote, and yet, some of my favorite storylines center on wealthy Black society. It's lovely to see Black actresses in lavish period costumes (and their finale gowns were way prettier).

"It’s like the TV show version of having a pet,” I told my friends after I started watching. “It has a short memory. It’s incredibly messy. Its object permanence is shaky. It constantly makes you want to say, ‘Aw, buddy, let’s get you cleaned up.’ Yet it’s just a beam of pure goodness that you can’t even really explain.”

It’s not just an escapist fantasy, either. I mean, it is, in that it frequently seems to be going out of its way to avoid drawing any parallels between the oligarchic culture it depicts and the oligarchic culture that’s increasingly taking over America today. It’s not really interested in the other side of wealth inequality—in poverty, in the enormous human misery its protagonists’ lifestyles inflict on the lower classes. But because of the show’s sheer narrative gawkiness, it becomes a sort of off-kilter critique of the 1 percent. As much as Fellowes would love to blur the connection, his characters have at least one thing in common with our current elites, who also spend a lot of time delivering bad dialogue on television. These people can’t even run their own TV show; how can we trust them to run the world?

This will only mean anything to BtVS fans. After MT died, we started a rewatch at season 5, and saw "The Weight of the World," the other night (Buffy is catatonic). When I let myself think about everything going on in the world, I am Buffy, putting that book back on the shelf, over and over again.
