This Hong Kong Observatory 2-hour radar timelapse (03:48-05:42) captures the moment Severe Typhoon Noul 紅霞 made landfall near Huizhou City, 100 km NE of the territory, around 03:50. Hong Kong is lucky it wasn’t a direct hit.
Severe Typhoon Noul 紅霞, packing 155 kph winds, made landfall 100 km NE of Hong Kong, near Huizhou City, a few minutes before 04:00. This is wind speed visualisation of the medium-sized typhoon.
At 21:20, Typhoon Noul 紅霞 was packing 140 kph winds and moving fast, and in this HKO radar 2-hour timelapse (19:18-21:12), we can see how close it is to Hong Kong already. At this rate, Noul will make landfall east of Hong Kong between midnight and sunrise. Stay safe, HKers!

A look at Typhoon Bavi 巴威 when it was closest to northern Taiwan, at 14:30 earlier today. Still big, and packing 145 kph winds, but downgraded to a regular typhoon from a severe typhoon just 2-3 days ago. Still, lots of damage after it makes landfall in Zhejiang… (Himawari-8 image)
Super Typhoon Bavi 巴威 is forecast to skirt pass northern Taiwan on Saturday evening, on its way to make landfall in southern Zhejiang. I hope my Taiwanese friends take all necessary precautions. It’s a big one!
