Ok, I’m going to stop doom sharing and go be outside for a while before it gets too hot. Meanwhile, behold! A Thistle.
Mine is fairly pleasing, based on a vague recollection of mum saying I was born at some ungodly hour of the morning. Electric cyan appears to be my favorite colour as a child as I was told blue was for boys and I was very much a tiny rebel.
Definitely wild carrot! Tiny red centre flower now in evidence. Also, soldier beetles…
Rescuers this one this year, two gorgeous flower spikes, lots of pink dots in the petals. Youngest child thinks someone painted them on. Could go either way, two unopened buds are also speckled. We’ll see what happens next time.
Well, that’s that answered. The moth orchid I rescued via Olio last year has flowered again, the improbably blue and pink colouring was indeed dye. The soft white reality is gorgeous but probably less gimmicky?
Garden update for today. Water forget me nots in the tiny attempted pond. A tiny spider, might be a candy stripe one? And, all astonishment! Potato leaves from some I only popped in two days so.
Today’s update, second picture is the one I photographed first a few days ago, opened even further. First picture is one in a “flower bed” that has some pink round the edges. Not sure if it’s variation or just a different stage.

My gathered wild carrot seeds from two years ago are going well, we’re about to get flowers!

Chopped my way through the brambles, thistles, roses and nettles down the path to get to the other bit (3/4) of the back garden yesterday. Tiny plum tree planted last year is making plums! Pear tree planted at the same time, just making leaves. But that’s ok.

This lady has been helping with the drain flies in the bathroom. I wonder how long my spider phobic kids will let her stay.
Gorgeous. Unlike the ones in my greenhouse who have been eating my seedlings. Copper tape applied and lurkers evicted. I swear, next green house shall be made of copper.
Spotted our first one yesterday too up in Northern Ireland. Same day as our first hummingbird hawk moth of the year!
Went for a walk, spotted some lovelies. Aquilegia growing in the little bit of woods near our house, garden escape, or more likely, planted by someone who feels it’s an extension of their garden. And a tiny mouth who may be a light brown apple moth.
The wild carrot seeds I planted a two autumns ago are really getting into their second year growth, flower heads to follow!
A bit? The bits that didn’t make it are rotting down nicely, the other bits are working up. It looks like something sat in it. So yes, failure to water it. :)
