Circuit Rewind
@circuitrewind
Hey there, Vince here with Circuit Rewind! Retro/Modern tech hybrids? Video Games? Jankinator!? Yeah, maybe. Though, you may know me better as Darkain or "That One Cospix Guy" ™
Hey @jeffchen.bsky.social So I took high-res detailed pics of every board in this eBay lot They're all submitted to theretroweb.com so the general community can have access. :) Once the submissions are approved I'll let ya know!
Look what @jeffchen.bsky.social found on eBay a few days ago. I was dumb enough to buy it. Take a look at that 8... erm... not-quite-16bit ISA slot !? Yeah, that's what attracted both of us to this oddity of a card! SERIOUS QUESTION: have you literally EVER seen something like this before EVER!?
The last time I started sharing vague arbitrary screen shots... I ended up producing and releasing stratipi.com as a full featured pre-built image for a GPS-sourced network time server. Yeah, I'm sharing something random again, working on something even bigger! :D
Huh, that's quite funny and interesting @jeffchen.bsky.social I just so happen to have a board that looks absolutely entirely identical to that one in my collection ;)
I'm sometimes a super early adopter into new tech. VaultS3 Heard of it? Doubtful. Will you hear about it in the coming months or a year, maybe two? Probably. You're hearing about it here, first! I'm porting/testing it on FreeBSD right now. This seems quite promising vaults3.com
Dear Internet: Does ANYONE know ANYTHING about this at all!? Even the smallest details!
Sorry everyone, I've been faking it the entire time as a UNIX (BSD) engineer.
I decided to up the "resource limit" on my #Stratipi living in the global public NTP server pool But I also swapped from a "debug" kernel to a "release" kernel, so I'm using LESS resources for 3x the number of clients/sec! stratipi.com will have all the details once they're compiled and cleaned :)
That's because PC collecting was killed so early though. It WAS a thing at one point, too! But we are so few, and there is so little availability. It's really rough.
Is it just me, or has LinkedIn search become absolutely freaggin worthless as of late !? I'm a Principal Database Administrator with about 3 decades experience. "Hey, wanna be a night screw stocker then?!" To shase to the people doing the manual labor, you're awesome! But that's not me.
Back in the good ol Cospix days, SeaTac felt like a weird little home away from home. Back then, I was doing over 20 shows a year, so was constantly in the air. Now I'm flying like maybe twice a year? Feels weird!
This build has passed every test I've got, and I've also been testing Stratipi.com against the #FreeBSD 15.1-BETAs and 15.1-RCs this whole time too, so zero surprises! Its been 2 months since the last public build Stratipi, because I've been waiting on 15.1-RELEASE github.com/circuitrewin...
While not OFFICIALLY official until the official "release announcement" in a couple days, I am now actively testing Stratipi.com on the absolute latest and greatest FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE! It is as literally as simple as changing a config variable from "15.0" to "15.1" in the build script. EASY! :D
Never seen one of these boards in my life (That's because I've seen two, that I own lol)
Hey look, I'm famous now :P No, seriously, go watch the video. DreamCast will always be one of my fav consoles because it just had so many freaggin banger titles on it.
I got hit with the Steam Hardware Survey this evening... You're all welcome. ;) (look at that VRAM)
This single cute little PoE Powered #RaspberryPi 4 8GB unit running #FreeBSD is handling over 16 million client requests per day on the open public Internet. This still blows my mind away how much it's doing!! And I'll be talking about it at the FreeBSD Developer Summit in a week :D
im not sure i could laugh any harder at the beginning of this video about Barbie!
The "rainbow" font has been my intent since day-one, not limited to just this month. It isn't in-product yet, as I'm limited to 16-color mode, but pushing to get this resolved upstream!
Without giving away too just much yet... Let's just say I'm currently sitting at 69 slides for my presentation talk in two weeks ;) -NICE-
if you ever need a DX33, please feel free to hit me up... I essentially have a tray of them (and as you can see, just a few other chips as well LOLOLOLOLOL)
This most certainly is going to be fun to present at the #FreeBSD Developer Summit here in a couple weeks! :D That bar on the far right? The "failure" condition that spikes both CPU usages and storage usage through the roof.
Updated the official image in the stratipi.com README tonight. This version of the dashboard was a buttload of work, but is so much nicer than the older one! I've just been slackin on getting the docs updated.
16 days of uptime later, and currently averaging over 14 MILLION client requests per day (164/sec) This is a single #RaspberryPi, running #FreeBSD! This thing is a beast of a little machine :D
