My take on Trump’s speech tonight, the coverage of it, and our reaction to it. Watch the packaging, not just the content. The threat is real. So is the 24/7 machinery that turns threat into suspense, dread, and monetized panic. We will stay alert. We will also take care of ourselves.

Trump’s administration is mounting an all-out assault on the next election. The other shoe is dropping.

At this point I’m at the Kermit-in-a-dark-sweater stage: as much charm and charisma as can be held in one green body, plus discipline, political savvy, and the ability to win the damn election. My personal preferences can go sit quietly in the coatroom.

Today’s forecast: scattered dread, with a chance of Godzilla.
