Together, we will create a long-form sound installation that expresses the essence of “sanctuary” – where sanctuary can be found, how it sounds, and what it feels like. The final work will be presented in the Schwarzman Centre Black Box, as an accompaniment to Edmund de Waal’s another hour.

On Saturday 28 November, writer and artist Edmund de Waal will be curating a very special Day of Psalms as part of the Schwarzman Centre in Oxford’s Cultural Programme, and Cities and Memory artists are invited to take part in a special commission as part of the event.

Researchers at the University of Padua and the University of Würzburg collected satellite images, research, photography and field recordings from the entire length of the river, and asked artists to reimagine the life of the river through sound.

Flow combines science, sound, and imagery to bring to life the story of the river Lech, which flows through Austria and Germany, as an example representing all rivers, all over the world.

We’re excited to present our latest project to the world today, as Flow is presented at the EGU general assembly in Vienna. Working with the University of Padova and the University of Würzburg, Flow tells the story of a river through sound, from its source to its end: citiesandmemory.com/flow/
