The vagaries of the Odyssey. Like many, many other texts from antiquity it is transmuted and changed in its re-tellings, the so-called 'original' is long lost (and who is to say exactly when it all began anyway?).

This little mouse snacking on a nice Roman loaf is a charming detail on this tombstone from Rome. The buried man's name was Amphion Mus, or 'Mouse', and it was his nickname.

Pale grey tombstone against a museum interior wall of paler grey boards. The stone is shaped somewhat like a statue base with a half-moon shaped top. There is finely carved Roman lettering on the stone, barely legible in the picture.

@cherylmorgan.bsky.social some years ago now you were kind enough to give me a 101 on trans things. It was really helpful to me to understand better. It's Pride so taking the opportunity to say thanks, and show off my new pin (found one that didn't feel appropriative).

Those 10 minutes looking round #ChippingNorton museum will be the best 10 hours you spend down research rabbit-holes for a...you get the idea. The display explaining Roman pottery is quite traditional in how pottery has been used by archaeologists (date, type, where made, where found)- still useful.

Stone statue head, quite abraded in a museum case with a turquoise background. Face looks straight on, unsmiling.

A sculpted stone head of the same buff coloured limestone as the other head. This lies on a slant in the case. The eyes are ovals without pupils, slightly 'lemon' shaped. It has a a crooked nose and open mouth with prominent lips.

A desk-style, wooden museum case. In it are info sheets of different Roman pottery types, with a photograph of each in the middle and a paragraph of information about each one. Pieces of pottery found locally that correspond to the pottery types are arranged on the sheet for comparison. A similar lithics - flints - info sheet is also included.

#TinyJoys a conifer in our garden was home to goldcrests and I was really unhappy when it came down. I hoped they'd move to nearby yew trees. This morning the Merlin app picked up their song.
