Happy Natal Day! 🧡 I love Nova Scotia and I'm especially grateful to live in Dartmouth. From our vibrant downtown to the neighbourhoods that make this community so special, Dartmouth is truly a place people are proud to call home.
On Emancipation Day, we remember the abolition of slavery across the British Empire, and reflect on the lasting impacts of slavery. Today and every day, we recommit to eliminating anti-Black racism and building a better future for everyone.
August is Acadian Heritage Month in NS. A time to learn about and celebrate Acadian heritage and culture. Vive l'Acadie! Pendant le mois d’août, nous célèbre la patrimoine acadienne ici en la Nouvelle Ecosse. Ne manquez pas la chance d’apprendre davantage sur et célébrer la culture acadienne.
The lobster industry is a giant economic driver in our province and the backbone of many coastal communities. Lobster is essential to our identity as Nova Scotians but it's also hard work with significant challenges.
This spring I joined members of Nova Scotia Woodlot Owners & Operators Association to tour two sustainable woodlots. Our forestry sector contributes nearly $2 billion in economic activity and is deeply embedded in the fabric of our shared history.
Nova Scotians expect their government understand how bad the housing crisis is—and to act urgently. So why isn't it happening? The Houston government has had five years, following years of Liberal neglect, but more and more families can't find a home they can afford.
It's Farmers' Market Week! This is the perfect time to get out, support local businesses, and sample the best that Nova Scotia has to offer. From fruits, veggies, meat, and eggs to baked goods , flowers, crafts, and preserves, there's something for everyone at your local farmers' market. 🧡
Happy Pride, Nova Scotia! 🌈 Thank you to everyone who came out to support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community today. Together, we celebrate and we recommit to making this province a better, safer, and more inclusive place for everyone.
Proud to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion. Across our province the Legion has been a beacon and a home for veterans and their families. Legions are also important community spaces at a time when these are becoming more and more scarce.
New Democrats are fighting for a Nova Scotia where people have a place to live, health care when they need it, and a life they love. Join us: nsndp.ca/join
Why won't the Houston government set up a residential tenancies enforcement unit? They have the evidence. There's a mounting pile of stories showing why it's needed. If we're going to have rules to protect renters, they need to be enforced.
Nova Scotians are rallying around their libraries and telling this government that they need to stay open. Funding has been static through record inflation, and for years libraries have been sounding the alarm. But Houston's minister just isn't listening. And that's incredibly frustrating.
Why won't the Minister of Labour pass our legislation and ban tip theft? Nova Scotia is one of the only provinces where employers are legally allowed to steal tips from workers. This isn't right, and we've been calling for a ban tip theft for years — but for some reason, they won't listen.
Today, on International Paramedics Day, we recognize the paramedics who show up every day to care for Nova Scotians in some of their most difficult moments. Thank you for your skill, compassion, and dedication to keeping our communities safe.
People across Nova Scotia want to buy a home or find an affordable place to rent, but this government keeps incentivizing housing that many people still can't afford. Nova Scotians deserve a government that gets it.
Happy Canada Day, Nova Scotia! Today is a chance to celebrate the people, communities, and diversity that make Canada such a special place to call home. No matter how you're celebrating, we hope you have a safe and happy Canada Day. 🍁
Congratulations to graduates across Nova Scotia! Finishing high school is a huge milestone, and you should be so proud of all the work you put in to get here. I'm wishing you the very best wherever life takes you next.
Today on National Indigenous Peoples Day we celebrate the rich histories and cultures of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, and reflect on the ongoing work of truth, justice, and reconciliation. Wela'lin to the Indigenous communities who continue to strengthen and enrich Nova Scotia and Canada.
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who show up for their families every day with love and encouragement. Wishing all of you a wonderful day with family and loved ones.
Juneteenth is a day to honour the generations of Black people across North America who fought for freedom, justice and equality. A time to reflect on the history and legacy of slavery, recognize the impacts of anti-Black racism, and celebrate the strength and contributions of Black communities.
As the Islamic New Year begins, we're wishing everyone celebrating a year filled with peace, renewal, and hope. May this new year being new opportunities for connection with family, friends, and community. Happy Islamic New Year!
Great to get out and experience Demo Day at the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship right in Dartmouth. COVE is doing crucial work to support ocean tech, create opportunities for innovation, and build a stronger economy for the future here in Nova Scotia.
Today Nova Scotia marks Davis Day, a time to honour the miners and mining families whose tragic sacrifices helped shape Nova Scotian labour rights and working conditions.
June is National Indigenous History Month—a time to reflect on the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. We have so many opportunities to learn from Mi'kmaq communities and leaders. I encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn, & deepen our commitment to reconciliation.
Happy 95th birthday to Dartmouth legend Gloria McCluskey! 🎈 An amazing milestone for a storied political figure and fierce advocate for Dartmouth.
Everyone deserves to live safely, openly, and free from discrimination and hate. New Democrats remain committed to ensuring all Nova Scotians can be themselves. Because love is love. Always.
Happy Pride season, Nova Scotia! 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ At this time of year we celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, joy, and strength. It's also a time to honour the generations of activists, advocates, and community members whose courage helped make our province more inclusive and welcoming.
When I talk to experts about a women's health strategy for Nova Scotia, it's clear: we badly need a road map to improve women's health care across the province.
Wishing everyone celebrating Eid al-Adha peace, joy, and time with the people you love today. Eid Mubarak! عيد أضحى مبارك
Lower costs, strong public health care, housing and child care people can afford, and good jobs — New Democrats know that investing in people works. We're seeing it in NDP governments across the country.
