Electrification also transforms people's daily lives for the better—freeing up more of one's income once spent on energy for other things while delivering cleaner vehicles that charge while parked, as well as smarter, more efficient homes that don't have to pollute to keep those inside comfortable.
The good news is that key electrification technologies are proving to be commercial successes, with the market for EVs and heat pumps already three times the size of that for wind turbines and solar panels. By 2035, this gap is expected to widen starkly.
As @ember-energy.org's new analysis finds, 60% of primary energy for transport, buildings, and industry—like fuel for a diesel truck—is consumed before ever passing through the electricity sector. Clean electricity "cannot displace fossil fuels in these sectors unless end uses are electrified."
