RETVRN to the Intercity 125 interiors! Colour! Comfy seats - that line up with the windows!
“I have a Victorian house in which every space has a window. I want to obliterate every trace of Victorian character and turn it into an oppressive tunnel where only the end rooms have a view to outside. Here’s a plan I made on ChatGPT.” This is why I quit architecture.
Forget the dreary old Bayeux Tapestry. The Last Invasion Tapestry in Fiahguard, showing the French invasion of 1797, has much more colour and drama.
This reminded me that i have to make jam with the (what i believe to be) damsons from the community garden, before they spoil. Now the kitchen is hot.
“Pryd fydd hi’n oerach yn Llundain?” goffynodd ein tiwtor Cymraeg, ar Zoom. “Byth!” dweudais i.
On a minibreak, staying in the campest imaginable pigsty, converted into a tiny holiday let by the Landmark Trust.
External blinds used to be quite common on Victorian buildings in England. I’m not sure why they fell out of use.
Ours had wonderful stripy upholstery like this one. Best £400 i ever spent, i had it for 10 years and went everywhere. Orkney, Czech Republic, all over. What was your one like?
The deleted post this was in response to was I think the most ratio’d post i have ever seen.
I once went camping with four (4) friends on the Isle of Skye in my 1992 Fiat Panda.
The spoilt brat Western consumer needs to get over its Wall-E lifestyle aspirations, of constantly consuming crap that’s brought to them, while they’re sat on their arse. Go out and experience the world!
Panzanella is an excellent no-cook primo for this insufferable weather. But i am reminded of a northern English friend’s mother, who presented with a vegetarian meal, will typically say that it would go very nicely with a chop.
Very few cities actually have a megastructure. It doesn't just mean a large structure. It's a concept from the 1960s Japanese avant-garde architectural movement, metabolism. It means a permanent structure within which smaller elements are changed over time.
Upgrade: I took the portable induction ring home from the shop. Thanks @shed.gay for reminding me about them.
Whereas the strip malls and gas stations from coast to coast are “like different countries” because some of the burger chains are different.
British electricity is pretty low carbon now. It’s largely renewables and nuclear. Fixed air conditioning systems can make low carbon heat in winter, as well as summer cooling. We should use it sparingly as with all energy, but AC is part of the solution - not the climate evil it’s often cast as.
New spinach at the community garden was seedlings a few days ago. Now there’s enough to fill many tortellini.
I’m not really sure what i’m doing, thinning the grapes at the community garden. The youtube people had proper vinyards. They’re getting bigger though.
Cous cous (ht @heresy.bsky.social ), courgettes and 1 halloumi each.
The sun is shining into the kitchen exactly where the branches were lopped off by some cowboy contractor, who convinced the gullible council that trees need an expensive programme of regular ‘maintenance’.
