This week I had joined a walk with the Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan community, one of only three schools in the DCPS system to offer Montessori learning. It was great to meet new principal Shelley Gray and meet with staff + parents to troubleshoot how we can make pick-up and drop-off safer.

These students have great ideas! Thank you to the YMCA DC Youth & Government group for stopping by our office to share legislation they’ve developed and discuss issues important to DC teens. We’re always glad to hear from the next generation of leaders.

What a beautiful day in Southwest! Spent the morning meeting with neighbors working to solve several issues in their building, then dropped by Carron Baptist Church to join their Juneteenth celebration preparing for next week’s holiday.

This morning, CM Allen returned to Barracks Row following last night’s fire, which affected residents, businesses, and workers. Thankfully, no one was injured. We’re grateful to the firefighters and first responders whose quick action prevented the fire from spreading further.

The center will also conduct research and educate the public through interactive exhibits about the importance of our regional water supply. There are increasing demands on our water sources. Everyone can take steps to make a difference. And strategic planning is essential. 3/4

That’s why this morning Councilmember Allen joined @dcwater.bsky.social at the groundbreaking for the Pure Water DC Discovery Center, which will pilot technologies to produce purified drinking water. 2/4

CM Allen got a compelling constituent request when he met with a Payne Elementary Brownie troop this week: "Please let us do whatever we want at school on Friday." While the Council doesn't set classroom schedules, we have to admit they made a strong case.

This afternoon, our hearing focused on how we can better crack down on air pollution and better measure harmful emissions that are worsening climate change. Thanks to my colleagues, @cmzparker5.bsky.social and @cmlewisgeorgew4.bsky.social, for introducing these bills. 2/2

2 great public hearings in committee today. This morning, we discussed a bill called Eric’s Law to allow individuals with disabilities to have a notation on their ID for first responders to improve communication, & a second bill to create a Washington Commanders DC license plate. 1/2

Last night, CM Allen joined Banner Lane residents for a community conversation. What did they talk about besides the budget? - His new bill banning common-area utility fees - The Safe Passage program & youth engagement programs  - Funding DC's childcare workers 1/2
