The Sotos’ crimes largely stem from a “printing press” that the FBI noticed during the initial raid of their home: a standard office printer, a paper cutter and a book binder. During the raid, one of the Sotos’ children told Elizabeth’s attorney that police put a bag over their head and brought them in for an interrogation; another child was interrogated in the home. Elizabeth only found out about their child being taken for interrogation from an article published by the anarchist collective Crimethinc that was later made into a zine. The justice department did not return the Guardian’s request for comment on the raid of the Sotos’ house, its attacks against the first amendment or its unusual use of counterterrorism law.

The federal prosecution argued the Sotos used the printing press to produce anti-government zines for a book club they and some of the other defendants were part of, named for the celebrated 20th-century anarchist Emma Goldman, who 99 years ago this month was arrested on conspiracy charges for organizing against the first world war draft.

At the book club, the group read political zines on subjects like “a journal of materialist feminism” and “a call for the eradication of artificial intelligence from the face of the earth” – perhaps niche, but nothing illegal, an FBI agent testified in court. Still, the FBI seized these zines, along with the printing press and a collection of poetry about losing a sibling to cancer.

I know Wayland has some advantages over X, but in my opinion they really blew it by keeping it so minimal. Granted, the Wayland protocol could have remained a simple core for a proper, feature-rich and modern library that allows the simple implementation of compositors, but what we have now seemingly stems from the fear of the Wayland developers to define anything.

Instead, what we got was a multitude of proprietary (in terms of specific to popular compositors) extensions, requiring thousands of LOCs of boilerplate to get it all right. To name a particular aspect, color management, Wayland could have been the chance for the Linux desktop to finally be on par with the exquisite color management (to the core!) that macOS offers. Instead, it's just yet another set of extensions that barely works consistently.

Actually, reading on a phone is just like reading a newspaper column. (pic as an example). I never heard anybody complain that newspapers were impossible to read... PS: Been reading only ebooks for 30 years now (started on my Psion3).

I just sat through an hour and a half of what had to be the most absolutely BONKERS Cabinet meeting / dog & pony show of all time.
It began as they all do, with his sycophants slathering him with faux praise. Then they took turns taking pot-shots at all of his enemies, Joe Biden of course, Jerome Powell, Kamala Harris, etc. Trump finished it up by saying Barack Obama, contrary to his reputation, “isn’t a smart person.” Then he went into his shtick about acing the cognitive test at Walter Reed three times. “It’s a very hard test. The doctors told me no one has ever aced it before.”
On the topic of Iran, he said “They really want to make a deal, because they’ve been beat to shit.”
By the way, he revealed what the “present” was that the Iranians offered him. It was 10 Pakistani flagged tankers “full of oil” being given safe passage through the strait. No idea how that benefits us, but that’s what he said.
Someone, I think Rubio, suggested Venezuela might put up a statue of Trump in gratitude to him. Trump of course glommed onto that and wouldn’t let it go. “I want to hear more about the statue.”
One very interesting part; Trump mentioned the 25th Amendment, and he wondered why Biden’s Cabinet never enacted it during his term. Lots of nervous eyes darted around the table. 👀
There were two or three periods where some of the banter struck me as familiar. Trump, Hegseth, et al, look as if they were cosplaying the conference scene in the Godfather, with Trump as a decidedly-less distinguished looking Vito Corleone, with Straci, Tatalia, Barzini, Cuneo, all sitting around, nervously listening to this “don.” It was BIZARRE! And in the annals of American history, historically so.
After sitting through all that, I think I deserve a gold medal myself. 🥇
