Will mainly post about Critical Role and gaming with an emphasis on retro gaming and JRPGS, especially of the Final Fantasy variety. However, I'm a human being with interiority so I could post about anything. (He/Him)
#21 - Valkyrie Profile Like a true hidden gem, it has brilliant art, gameplay, and music buried under unforgiving mechanics with a spotty translation and some of the most macabre scenes voiced by actors from 4Kids. Honestly the vibes are just on here. If you're a JRPG freak then you must play this.
#19 - Stardew Valley Women want me, men want me, fish fear me. This took Harvest Moon's title to become the modern day king of "cozy gaming." A debatable term considering how min-max heavy the end game is, but this does have a super engaging gameplay cycle that keeps you wanting to do one more day.
#18 - Picross NP Vol. 5 This one has Zelda puzzles. I've developed a recent vibes based test for games I call the "brain worms test." I don't try to analyze anything. I simply ask, "does my mind still go back to this long after putting it down?" (Picross NP Vol. 5 did not give me brain worms.)
Three weeks after my laptop got fried, I got a new one and will be posting again.
Remember, even in the lowest of moments, what more could you ask for? #CriticalRoleSpoilers
Alright I'm at post-break. Time for team manor. Yay.... #CriticalRoleSpoilers
"Billy, this is Virginia. She's a total badass and one of the best waifus in the game. Her only defect? She's also your cousin."
Broke: cracking open a cold one with your boys. Woke: cracking open a cold one with your ragtag band of seditionists that only slightly like each other more than wet socks. #CriticalRoleSpoilers
#16 - Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Kojima's blueprint becomes apparent here. Nominative determinism, history lessons, speeches about the nature of war, and constant twists. The dialogue takes a step up from the first game, as do some of the sneaking mechanics. Many beats are verrrry similar to MGS1.
When you and your friends try to blame the one random in your group for your loss.

#15 - Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions A bunch of MGS 1 dev test levels with no story or dialogue. The levels were funny and goofy but also pushes the mechanics to the point where their jank starts to show. I bought this for $10, and at that price point it was fun. Wouldn't pay much more than that.
#14 - Final Fantasy XIII-2 The exploration-heavy structure and removal of level caps imbalanced the air-tight combat of the 1st game. I still liked it, though. Cutscenes had bad slowdown. Switching to random battles was a downgrade, imo. Story was nonsense but had some campy charm. Music was godly.
#13 - Etrian Odyssey II Most of what I said about EO1 still applies here. Still strangely addicting to make incremental progress and draw maps. Still brutally lethal and full of troll elements. Meta setups will be required for full completion. Boss farming makes money & exp easy to get, thankfully.
Today I'm thinking of all the hard working moms in Final Fantasy. Thanks for all that you do.
May the Fourth be with you. Shout out to FFXII for making a better Star Wars game than a lot of Star Wars games.
#10 - Octopath Traveler The intro to the HD-2D era. I like the graphics. Chill, old-school turn-based RPG with 8 different stories to play. Don't expect any of them to be very interesting or intersect much. The characters rarely interact. Battle system is good. Polished, but a bit unremarkable.
#9 - Picross NP Vol. 1 It's picross. You make pictures with mathematical logic. You either like it or you don't. It's cute, it has some Pokemon puzzles, it has a pretty even difficulty except for one very tough to solve puzzles near the end. I still have 50 characters? Uh, I've never played Sonic.
My Overwatch style is to never watch videos, pro players, or character guides. I cook up my own metas straight from scratch.
