Official account for Portland City Councilor Mitch Green from District 4.
Type II land use decision incoming in NW. For those following all things land use related to storage, load / unloading of asphalt and liquid fuels in the CEI Hub and adjacent area you’ll want to mark your calendar for Tuesday July 28 at 10:30 to listen to an Early Assistance meeting with PP&D.
Instead, we’re seeing a pressure campaign directed at council begging for a shot at a fair deal on short timeline. Dismissing that as “opportunistic techbro behavior” is bizarre, but also reveals a troubling insight into how the Mayor views public criticism, which is beginning to form a pattern.
In Housing & Permitting Cmte where we are hearing a proposal to hold the HOLTE cap constant for another year. I asked why the average purchase price for homes under this program has softened relative to 2021. RIP was cited as the driver for lowering cost. Need to advertise that widely imo!
Better Portland is hosting a coffee meetup at Matta Café Bar in the Pearl District on Friday at 9 a.m. to discuss support for small businesses and how to strengthen our local economy. Join us.
I expect the primary objection to our amendment will be that it spends money now that we may need in next year’s budget. I’ll note that the city just published for the first time details regarding the Mayor’s proposed sources of funds for Moda remodel that anticipates $45 million in BLT.
Tomorrow the Committee of the Whole will convene for the first time. In that meeting we will consider an ordinance that establishes a Transportation Utility Fee. I have filed an attachment that is an attempt to respond to demands for an alternative approach I’m hearing from community
At the CEI Task Force press conference at Augustana Lutheran Church. Overwhelming turnout of Portland neighborhood associations demanding the City Council take bold action to make sure we set ourselves on a path to remove the risks of disaster at the hub, not entrench those risks.
“Our love is unconditional” Meet the people serving our community members on the streets of District 4. Squier, a street librarian with Street Books, gave me a tour of their mobile services at sidewalk locations in neighborhoods like Old Town. I’m inspired by their commitment to dignity for all.
PCC Board of Directors: I'm asking you to do the right thing and step in and repair the damage that Dr. Benning's administration has done to labor relations at the college. @pccffap.bsky.social and PCCFCE make this institution run and deserve contracts that have a COLA that meets the moment ✊🎓👷♀️
While I wish frequency and connections were better, I do like this transit center. Can you tell which one it is?
The trash that occupies the White House (and any legislator failing to act to stop him) is bombing children in Iran. This is intolerable. The time for mass mobilization is now. Join an org, get into the streets, contact your reps. No war on Iran.
This is tomorrow. Hope to you see you there! RSVP below crm.nonprofiteasy.com/6452/Pages/E...
This morning's newsletter is all about that $106MM in unspent housing dollars. Sharing that here as well in case you haven't signed up yet (you should)
Now that bs has a drafts feature just want to remind everyone of this sage bit of wisdom
The amendment that we are filing simply adjusts the dates as follows. It is important to give the City Administrator and Council Ops staff sufficient time to accommodate this discovery work.
I'm just a dumb idiot when it comes to transportation planning, so I'll take my lashings on this if I'm wrong. But, I do know how to interpret a time series chart. I see clear seasonality in ridership during the cold & raining months. Surely insufficient stop infrastructure plays a role in that.
There is an emerging community led convening occurring outside of City Hall beginning at 6pm. Some councilors will speak starting around 6:30pm. There is no place in this city for ICE.
Today I filed a resolution intended to pursue Council oversight into the matter of the $21M that was found in the Portland Housing Bureau but not disclosed to Council ahead of budget discussions. I'm joined by @councilormorillo.bsky.social and @counciloravalos.bsky.social as co-sponsors.
Disagreement on policy is welcome and reasonable, but calling me a Nazi for cosponsoring an ordinance to ban price-fixing is completely unacceptable. Councilor Ryan edited his post, but did not disclose the edit and explain the nature of the substantive change, so it’s here for posterity.
I oppose the resumption of sweeps beginning tomorrow. They are costly, ineffective and cruel. At a time when our Federal government is literally starving our most vulnerable neighbors, we add to that by violently taking from them what little they have? My statement attached.
Veterans: we need you in this historical moment. Join me and other vets as we form a contingent for the No Kings march this Saturday. We have a special role to play in stopping the slide into authoritarianism. Hope to see you at Friendship Circle by the Steel Bridge at 11:30 am.
Like I said: Kristi Noem is a liar, has no honor, and we are lucky that we have a proud protest tradition that shows this administration we are not backing down. 🫡🐸🐔
Portland will not bend to Trumpism. We will not be shocked into compliance with his overtly racist, and violent attacks on our most vulnerable neighbors. We must get organized and refuse to allow his authoritarianism to be normalized in our city. Use your voice, be smart and safe, and stand strong.
Trump’s deployment of troops to Portland is a dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. Now is the time to find our own ways of standing up and fighting back to preserve our democracy. Fellow vets: we need you to muster. And those serving: you can refuse an unlawful order as you may receive it.
Slide from the presentation. That street scene sure looks a lot like Vienna! Of course, I support any policy that makes our built environment look more like that.
I’m sure my colleagues in D3 appreciate the food tourism export dollars, but once we unfetter the market with passage of my ordinance I’ll be able to get a dog in my own district.
