I'm trying an orange-brown on Driers tack tonight (steel legion drabbed washed with fuegan orange). I usually use the colour for the trousers but Driers are not visible. #hobbystreak day 41
Contemplating the spheres at the flaming lips in the galway arts festival big top last night.
I'm at a concert tonight. Here's a 20 minute speed paint I did on my lunch break to keep the #hobbystreak alive another day.
Added a bunch of layers of lighter yellows and a bit of bone to the lions skin. Tried to give it a bit of texture while I did it, and darkened the mane. Heat has me beat so leaving it at that for tonight. #hobbystreak day 39
More work on Drier. I've shown this to a friend who isn't into Warhammer and they did not believe me when I said it was originally a horse so that's pretty cool. #hobbystreak day 38
Did more work on Driers base, added some orange and bone tones. Strating into the lions fur on the legs but it's going to be a long process. #hobbystreak day 37
Tonight's progress on drier: Steel legion drab on the lion and a glaze with thinned rhinox hide on the base #hobbystreak day 36
Working my way up from the bottom. A bit of stirland mud to blend Driers tactical rock into the base and a wash with a light brown just to kick us off. #hobbystreak day 36
For #hobbystreak day 35 I just gave Drier a quick black/white zenithal so I can think about the light and shadow.
Tonight I finished off assembling Drier. I'm quite pleased with myself for keeping a little gap in ES81-lion's mane where the gas-mask strap goes through. #hobbystreak day 34
Calm before the storm. All set up for my workshop today. It's over now and it was crazy, but in the best way. Everybody had fun and hopefully they'll all be back next week.
I think I'm done with Es81-Lions mane. So many little greenstuff sausages, but I think it will look ok once painted, but I'll leave it cure for a while. #hobbystreak day 34
Realizing I have work to do before the workshop on Thursday I parked the greenstuff work to prime the last set of reaper chibi adventurer miniatures I have to give the kids.
ES81-lions mane is starting to fill out. I drilled a hole to pin the tail in place as well. Seems to be holding a bit better. #hobbystreak day 32
I broke ES81-lion's tail, and have to try another approach. But I have given it a neck beard? This poor horse. #hobbystreak day 31
Got some self-heal and a few tiny bog orchids in the wild part of my garden #wildflowerhour
Spent some time assembling ES819 (Driers steed) I have previously painted Krieg steeds as having tiger stripes, as they are genetically modified clawed monsters, but for ES819 I'm aiming for something a bit more regal. Which is why I glued a bit of a paper clip to it's tail. #hobbystreak day 30
Alright. For #hobbystreak day 29 I have pulled Lord Marshall Drier out of storage and reviewing the model build steps. I have an idea for a small conversion that I want to try and implement, and I'm trying to figure out at what point during the build process I will have to commit.
I gave my tiles a coat of Mod Podge to give them a final seal and make them a bit tougher. That is the tiles done. I'll take some nicer shots tomorrow once they are dry and cured. #hobbystreak day 28
Alright, I'm posting early tonight because I figured out what I'm doing, based on @inq28blokia.bsky.social's suggestions. It takes a long time to dry though so I'm posting while I wait for the first set of tiles to dry. #hobbystreak day 27
Tonight I drybrushed my tiles grey. Now I have to decide do I go further? For a cheap, quick project that looks good and is easy to do, this looks fairly ok (I think?) but I could do a lighter drybrush, glaze/stipple some colour in, draw calcium veins on some "stones" etc. #hobbystreak day 26
A big tiles of primed black tiles. I'm hoping the sand will catch paint as I drybrush and sponge colour on in the next few steps. Give it the feeling no one has swept it in a few years, and add a bit of visual interest. #hobbystreak day 25
Back to painting! Gave my tiles another coat of PVA to seal them and started painting them with a paint on black primer. Got about half done now. #hobbystreak day 24
I'm going to go with Mark Gibbons' Bloodthirster for now, but there's a lot of great stuff and I'd likely have a different answer at another moment.
Applied the dungeon grid stones to my 6*6 squares. This marks the physical completion of the set. Now I need to paint them. One has a very light scattering of sand glued to it, will paint it first and see if the texture is noticeable, and if it is do I like it. #hobbystreak day 22
Making my grid tiles. Draw grid, cut out grid, trim the corners and sides so they're a little uneven. Then repeat the last step 120ish times #hobbystreak day 21
Put the grid stones on another load of tiles. That's all the cardstock I have cut so now I need to cut another 110 ish from a pizza box. #hobbystreak day 20
The first I was really proud of was an ork nob for gorkamorka, back when I was a kid. But it's long lost to time and life. The first model of my 'current era' that I am proud of was this reaper minis dire wolf. I think I got a nice depth to the fur.
