Da Miata Man

I can’t do blue checks anymore, this better work this time.
Found this as the Guatemalan Bolaño and I agree. Only difference is Rey Rosa doesn’t seem as eager to lie about his complacency or role in his country’s suffering. Crime genre subversion and meta narrative roaring at full tilt in a deep meditation of how much say the past should have on the present
Found this thru a bookstore reel, excellent lil novella from Mexico. Visceral and agonizing anger flows out of poverty and the humiliation of being proximal to wealth when you have no way to escape. Ugly, hateful emotion throughout that just needle your brain all 110 pages. Highly recommend.
Was really eager to enjoy it, and I didn’t quite like it as much as I’d hoped. I think it was more just I didn’t personally connect to it due to its profound Europeaness. Still very fascinating all things said, some really poignant passages that I spent time savoring. Walden for the industrial age.
Off to Ireland. Interesting style with the prose that heightens the emotional avoidance and paranoia that can be required to maintain the single minded focus of a liberation struggle. Highlights a very interesting dialectic between 60/70s global radical movements and IRAs prior history that I loved.
Continuing on the failures to rise up themes in American history. Starts slow, picks up with a classic Roth jerking off tale, then sprawls out for 300 pages of deciding if you must be a pretty boy dullard to love America. Roth always pumps blood and cum into the story, this is his most vibrant.
It’s passed thru me, surely will return to it with a more attentive eye again. With things like this, I try to not get too hung up on minuta and instead allow myself to just focus on enjoying the craft of a masterpiece. Absolutely incredible stuff here, well worth the effort.
I saw this band in Mexico with 90k people and now they’re in Chicago to 1k lol
Put this on driving to Illinois. Had to pull over I was crying so hard hearing poo tee weet at the end. Intellectually, thought it was beautiful how Vonnegut is working through writing being his own disassociation from Dresden and also how he insert himself as the guy who shit his own brains out
Tfw you’re waiting to go in and have people talk about fiction you wrote for the first time since high school
Catch 22 was gonna be the warm up for Gravity’s Rainbow but decided to get back into the flow of TP too. Everything for the later stuff is here, including the song lyrics I can never find the rhythm of. Loved the grand Post Office based conspiracy and the peaks had me vibrating on molecular levels.
Going to start one of those reading threads but this is what I’ve read so far this year
I mentioned being a banjo player in a job interview and the guy interviewing asked if I knew the guy making this post, as they’d served overseas together, and he knew Clifton was sorta well known. I had to inform him that I did and that he was now better known for being insane for this stuff now lol
This album is everything Gen Z thinks about us Millennials and the only one I'd probably fight them all that hard about
I dishonored the singlet with my time today, but it was really hot tbf
