Chris Wills (he/him) 🏳️🌈
@crispeater
Labour and Co-op Party councillor for Withington ward in Manchester. LGBT+ Lead on Manchester City Council. Union steward. Lover of Doctor Who, Eurovision and walks.
It was an exhilarating climb - if challenging in places! ⛰️ Like Gavin I’m raising money for @welovemcr.bsky.social - you can donate here: www.justgiving.com/page/chris-w...
Also great to hear from @cllrmarcus.bsky.social. Not great to hear an anti-immigration, pro-landlord rant from one of the Reform councillors. There’ll be more of that, sadly.
Now a motion moved by @gavinwhite76.bsky.social and seconded by Councillor Lynch, committing to furthering our programme of more social and affordable housing, as well as enforcing the Renters Rights Act. 🏡
At MCC Full Council, with a motion about working with the government to drive forward @andyburnham.bsky.social’s agenda. Like Councillor Karney, we’re getting full square behind our incoming PM. 🌹 👏🏻
Great day campaigning over in Trafford for @bevcraig.bsky.social to become our next Greater Manchester Mayor. 🌹
Congrats @bevcraig.bsky.social on being selected as Labour candidate for the GM Mayor by-election. Looking forward to helping get her elected. 🌹
Now that’s a good start to a Friday @andyburnham.bsky.social 🌹❤️
Three rounds of get out the vote for @andyburnham.bsky.social in Makerfield today. Has felt very positive - everything crossed for the result tonight. 🌹🗳️ @gavinwhite76.bsky.social @cllrmarcus.bsky.social @jeffsmithmp.bsky.social @bevcraig.bsky.social
Social media ban for under-16s will definitely stop this from happening 🙃
Team Withington representing in the campaign to get @andyburnhamgm.bsky.social elected in Makerfield. 🌹
Someone needs to update this to include “bisexual lighting”…
🇷🇸 It’s song no.9, so time to raise a glass to Terry… and a song that possibly wouldn’t have been his cup of tea #Eurovision
This vile woman is the new Reform councillor for Baguley ward. She won the seat in part because the Greens took a chunk out of our vote. Happened elsewhere too. Labour can’t focus solely on progressive voters, but we need to win them back if we’re to avoid further catastrophic losses next year.
Great to hear too from Councillor Ali Ilyas. He attended a recent litter pick in Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield. Children there were shocked that adults would just drop litter. Zero excuses and zero tolerance for people who disrespect their neighbourhoods. Motion is carried.
Second motion is on another key issue for our residents: cleaning up our streets. Moved by Councillor Lee-Ann Igbon and seconded by Councillor John Hughes. Too often our attempts at enforcement are let down when courts treat offenders leniently.
Excellent speeches too from Councillor Irene Robinson and @cllrmarcus.bsky.social - both of whom (like me) have lots of experience, both good and bad, of the private rented sector. Motion is carried. Such good news for private renters in Withington, and across our city. ❤️🌹
At Full Council. First motion is on standing up for our renters. Moved by @gavinwhite76.bsky.social and seconded by my fab ward colleague Angela Gartside. The Labour government’s Renters’ Rights Act is a game-changer.
This was the final meeting chaired by @cllrmarcus.bsky.social - and it was a really good one. You can watch the recording of the meeting here: democracy.manchester.gov.uk/ieListDocume... We’re now toasting his four glorious years as Chair. 🍸
Busy today getting out the vote for Angeliki Stogia in Gorton and Denton. 🗳️ 🌹
Out campaigning for Angeliki Stogia in the Gorton and Denton by-election this evening, along with the biggest and best Labour Group in the country. Plenty of support for Angeliki - vital people get out and vote Labour on Thursday. 🌹❤️
I’ve been out helping in Gorton and Denton over the last week. Lots of conversations with voters and plenty of support for Angeliki Stogia. 🌹 Every vote counts in this by-election. Make sure you #votelabour - now if you have a postal vote, or otherwise on Thursday 26 February.
Busy week out on the doorstep in the Gorton and Denton by-election for our fantastic Labour candidate Angeliki Stogia. Lots of support - and lots more work to do. This by-election is a choice between Labour and Reform UK, between unity and division. 🌹
Massive congratulations to Angeliki on being selected! We were then straight out on the doorstep in Gorton and Denton, fighting for her to be elected as the Labour MP on 26 February. 🌹 @manchesterlabour.bsky.social
Fantastic, brave speech from my ward colleague Cllr Angela Gartside on the motion on making Manchester more accessible for people with disabilities. She spoke about her own experiences of living with a stoma following cancer treatment. Motion was carried.
Passed another amended motion on our plans to make sure Manchester will continue to have a Pride. Looking forward to working with councillors and the LGBTQ+ community on a new, community-led Manchester Pride. @bevcraig.bsky.social
Passed an amended (by @gavinwhite76.bsky.social and Cllr Jon-Connor Lyons) motion reaffirming our commitment to building on brownfield land and creating more green spaces. Original was disingenuous from opposition councillors who demand more social housing - and then oppose at planning.
Had a lovely time at the market - look forward to seeing it become a regular fixture in Withington.
