#1940s #WorldWarII #History As everyone may know today 82 years ago was the anniversary of D Day, On June 6th 1944 the Allies stormed Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany
On November 11th 1918 the Armistice was signed and American troops returned home but only 30 years US troops would once again return to France during D Day and afterwards marching through the same areas their fathers fought in the last Great War
By the time America 🇺🇸 joined in April 1917 the Allies or Entente had been exhausted for almost 4 years of trench warfare with suicidal charges across no man's land including in places like Verdun, The Somme and infamously Flanders Fields which millions died due to machine guns and mustard gas
#1910s #WorldWarI #History The Meuse Argonne offensive was the last campaign of The Great War, In October 1918 the AEF or US Expeditionary Force under General John J Pershing began their attack on the German Hindenburg Line and over 1 million American and French troops began attacking Germany
For 3 months the Division and the Japanese 14th Army under Col. Nakagawa fought in a attritional campaign Operation Stalemate II with Marines capturing its airfield critical to the Liberation of the nearby Philippines and would suffer over 1200 casualties including most notably at Bloody Nose Ridge
