On August 10, 2025, journalist Anas Al Sharif was assassinated alongside four colleagues in an Israeli airstrike targeting a media tent outside of Al-Shifa hospital. The rank-and-filers of CWA4P will stand for press freedom and in solidarity with the Palestinian cause until liberation.

Members of unions and professional organizations have shouted their support for Palestinian workers, only to be muffled by the leaders who are supposed to represent them. The resulting rank-and-file disillusionment means unions lose their electoral influence. truthout.org/articles/lab...

Union leadership and professional membership organizations have crushed many international solidarity efforts in their own ranks. Two
proposed resolutions to divest from Israel bonds were killed in committee at
the American Federation of Teachers convention in 2024, and the American Historical Association leadership vetoed efforts from membership to condemn scholasticide in Gaza not once but twice. In 2025, the board of the National Education Association overturned its membership's democratic decision to boycott the Anti-Defamation League. And our own Palestine-focused CWA member organization has had our efforts to pass resolutions in solidarity with workers in Gaza and the West Bank undemocratically stymied by leadership.

Follow the money: Name any union (other than UAW!) in New York, and their political arm has probably given money to this IE. IBEW, the New York State Nurses Association, District Council 37 and TWU Local 100's campaign accounts have all pitched in healthy sums, to name a few.
What's up with that? This is the first time since he was elected comptroller that DiNapoli has faced a primary. With Raj Goyle and Drew Warshaw challenging him from the left, it makes sense labor would want to get involved. involved

Israel’s targeting and killing of media workers across the region has made this the deadliest conflict on record for journalists.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 260 journalists, many of them deliberately targeted. The press are also under attack in Lebanon and Yemen.

In September 2025, Israel struck a newspaper office in Yemen, killing 31 journalists—the deadliest massacre of media workers in 16 years.

How does this affect us here? Palestinian, other Arab, and Muslim workers have been held to higher standards of “neutrality” and experienced discrimination in newsrooms. Many of our colleagues with loved ones in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and throughout the region live in fear and anxiety. Some have even lost family members themselves.

Newsrooms have censored reporting about Palestine.

This undermines the autonomy of rank-and-file reporters and produces biased work, breaking down trust with news readers. Journalists have been disciplined or even fired from their jobs for expressing their beliefs or “showing bias.”

PPSWU was recently able to prepare 40 food packages for low-income kindergarten workers in Hebron in the West Bank. The union president used her own home as a temporary space to prepare and organize the distribution of the food parcels.
