Willie Wise of the Utah Stars in 1973. He has a large, perfectly trimmed Afro, which perfectly trails down the sides of his cheeks and connects to his large, thick mustache. He is wearing a white jersey with the word STARS in red letters flanked by small blue stars. His number 42 is in red in front of a large blue star. His waistband is decorated with small red star and his shorts have thick blue lines and thin red lines going down the sides. Naturally, he is holding a classic red, white, and blue ABA basketball.

#NewspapersInComics Source: Wonder Woman #126 Grade: A- This headline may be a touch over the top, but I think such tactics are warranted on occasion. Mostly I’m impressed with how much work went into making this look like a real newspaper.

#NewspapersInComics Source: Batman #33 As much as I hate to admit it, this is an accurate rendition of the typical inside page of a newspaper in the 1940s. In fact, most newspapers looked like this up through the ‘90s. The pre-computer era of literally cutting and pasting led to some ugly stuff.

#NewspapersInComics Source: Genesis #1 Grade: B- There’s actually quite a bit that I like about this layout. It’s a clean and detailed design. But that headline is way too wordy. I would have just said “OUT OF CONTROL?” across the top, and put all that Superman stuff in the subhead.
