The sun has become dim
The world seems quiet enough to take off my headphones
The dogs stop barking
I hear an owl
The other birds slowly quiet down
An alarm is blaring in the far distance
Vehicles keep driving, though less frequently for a moment
The electricity keeps screeching
I try to think of how to capture a moment without meaning
But that which we give it
My friend refers to the end of the world
The feeling is mutual
But
The trees rustle
A helicopter whirls
The light becomes brighter
A moment when we forgot to breathe
Just for a few seconds
But we're breathing again now
The profound and the mundane
Remain within us
Remembered or not

Wrote a poem because my silly thoughts about transness in the Garden of Eden had an interesting rhythm Hope you like it

I wonder what transness would have looked like
In the garden of Eden
Adam a woman and Eve a man
Where would their sense of self find purchase
If there was no landscape of mirrors
Reflecting back at them
Adam born alone in humanity
What could they really be but
Beyond a binary
And Eve, born of Adam's body alone
Sharing no DNA with a mother
Unless Adam that mother could be
What could they see of womanhood
Without cloth to sew themself
An identity
She and he, they and ze
Meanings we only find as we
Scratch at each other's surfaces
To bleed commonality and
The unquantifiable mysteries
We each hold inside with no certainties
As to who we are supposed to be
And when we are covered in each other's
Fluidity
And humanity
And find what lies lurking under growth upon growth
Are we not all born in infantality

From the start, the T4 reporting process was haphazard. Physicians and administrators were required to return the forms quickly; one institutional doctor had to fill out 1,500 questionnaires in two weeks. Early confusion about the purpose of the forms led some doctors to exaggerate the severity of their patients' conditions, in the belief that they were protecting them from a plan to release them from institutions in order to send them to work.

Saw that Trans & Intersex Pride Dublin posted these slides about the dropping of previous commitments by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael in the new Programme for Government including WPATH, for anyone who would like to know more

What does The Programme for Government mean for the trans community.

Spoiler: a step backwards

HEALTHCARE

The Fianna Fail/Fine Gael led government has dropped a commitment to introduce a model of care based on WPATH (World Professional Association of Transgender Health). A model based on affirmative gender care, an imperfect model but miles ahead of the current gatekeeping model of care. This has been dropped due to the Cass Review.

the new model put forward by the programme for Government says they will "ensure a transgender healthcare service that is based on clinical evidence, respect, inclusiveness and compassion", a vague commitment that could mean further attacks on trans healthcare.

This has been welcomed by National Gender Service Doctor Paul Moran

NON-BINARY PEOPLE

The Programme for Government has dropped commitments to examine legal recognition of Non-binary people.

This is despite 18 countries already recognizing non-binary people without any issues and despite it being in the previous programme for government

The Programme for Government has also dropped a commitment to ensure that public bodies "take positive steps, including the use of correct pronouns and, where possible, making improvements on official forms, to assist non-binary people".

This is a right-wing programme for government and a step backwards for the trans community. It is made up of right-wing independents, including transphobic TDs.

This week Minister Roderic O'Gorman asked Deputy Danny Healy-Rae to withdraw comments he made in the Dáil in which he said he was "concerned about the influence of the transgender movement on minors and potential connections to paedophilia advocacy."

The trans community can have no faith in Fianna

If you can get to Dublin City Hall on Dame Street for 6pm (30 minutes from now) there's a protest being held against the Dublin city Council plans to ban soup kitchens for homeless and poor folks

DCC's proposed criminalisation of on-street mutual aid would effectively cut many people's safety nets by banning their neighbours from providing vital support that the council is not supplying. A 2021 report commissioned by the Dublin Region Homeless Executive describes the work of on-street groups as "disruptive to the functioning of business, and the city centre as a space," and claims that people gathering for these services are a"nuisance". It also claims that supports such as food and tents "encouraged people to remain on or return to the streets," rather than the reality: meeting critical needs of those who are unhoused. The proposed criminalisation is a blatant attempt to forcefully displace unhoused people and other oppressed groups from a city increasingly built for tourists, landlords, and multinational corporations.
