Our fight is not over. Scotland for Decrim will persist until we reach our goal: the full decriminalisation of sx work in Scotland. It won’t be easy, and it won’t happen fast. Political organising isn’t for the impatient ones, those who seek results overnight. As a wise woman keeps telling me: It’s a sair fecht.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this campaign, everyone who shared our posts, engaged with our reels, passed on the Ally Mobilisation Kit, wrote to their MSPs or called their representatives, everyone who donated so we could keep printing posters and flyers, and travel to meetings. Thank you to all the allies who stepped up in a big way, not just with words but actions. Thank you (heart emoji)

Four days ago, Scotland for Decrim won the fight against Ash Regan attempting to change the law regarding sw in Scotland. It took me a couple of days to recover from the sickening debate MSPs had about us and our work. Here are (some of) my thoughts about it all:

It is Thursday, 5 February 2026. Two days have passed since we beat Ash Regan’s Nordic Model Bill. It feels surreal, not having to spend every waking minute wondering if our lives will become more precarious, if sx workers will die because of one woman’s moralistic superiority complex. We fought against client criminalisation and for the safety of Scottish sx workers. Our win was not an easy one, and we don’t rest easy knowing that 54 MSPs voted for the Bill, while 64 voted against it.

But we did it. We won. Thank you so much to all the SWs and allies who helped us at Scotland for Decrim to beat Ash Regan’s horrendous Bill! I’m so proud of everyone, especially those of us who showed up to meetings even when we were tired, after long days of working vanilla jobs or seeing clients, even when we didn’t always agree with each other, or when the stress of this campaign affected our relationships. We grew in this movement, taught ourselves to be humble, accepted criticism, folded into a natural hierarchy based on each others’ strengths and skills, and became better organisers and activists because of it.

We looked after each other and cared for each other, pushed past breaking points and showed up for each other in real and meaningful ways. When Ash Regan and her supporters insulted us, calling us “pimp lobby” and worse, making it out as if we don’t care about trafficking victims and those who left the industry shaken and traumatised, it was hard to stay silent. She tried to divide victims of male violence as if there are two types: the good, obedient type and us, the revolting whores (and their allies). Michelle Thomson gave a sickening speech; most of us couldn’t stand listening to her heatedly reciting trauma porn and walked out.

We want to protect trafficking victims as well as ourselves, and indeed all sx workers, not only those in Scotland, but worldwide. Under decriminalisation, we would feel safer reporting instances of abuse and, based on evidence from other decrim countries, our relationship to the police would improve. We would have better working conditions, we would feel safer at work, and there would be less stigma, leading to better support for all of us.
