You know its going well when you move from explaining the "joke" to explaining the verbal irony used in said "joke." If Will Stancil wasn't a white man he might feel a little less defensive being called on a bad "joke."

Guys the way sarcasm works is that it flips the meaning. If I
sarcastically say "I'm sure Trump's next rambling tweet will reopen
Hormuz!" that's not in "poor taste" because it's what MAGA would say.
It's a direct criticism of MAGA. Being confused about this a failure of
reading comprehension.

You can say it's fine because it was sarcastic, but if you make a sarcastic
joke that is indistinguishable from something an actual fascist would say,
some readers will conclude that you are a fascist.
