A full house for the once a year service in French at St Julien’s Chapel Southampton. My last time leading it. The baton is passed on.
It all started in 1567 but the story continues! Then refugees from religious persecution were welcomed in Southampton and granted St Julien’s Church to worship. This Sunday 3pm we’re holding the now annual service in French, Winkle Street so142ny. All welcome whatever.
If Carlsberg made Sunday afternoons reading and listening to Radio Caroline. Is the book title a good omen?
So walking, buses and trains have got me from Calais to Dieppe. Ten beds in 10 days. Today Caueux to Ault on foot, bus to Mers Les Bains, walk to Le Tréport and bus to Dieppe
The cows gave me strange looks as I walked through the heat to Cayeux Sur Mer. I love beach huts and light houses. Then afternoon stroll through the dunes
My day started on a steam train and ended up enjoying the beauties of Saint-Valéry-Sur-Somme
Grace and kindness today as a stranger gave me a lift to avoid a hot and boring walk. Now in Le Crotoy in the Baie de la Somme. Remember one train can hide another!
Montreuil Sur Mer ( not actually on sea) to Berck that actually is. Saw seals in the distance and lovely church. Thunderstorms!
Here’s today’s snaps from classy Le Touquet, down to earth Etaples and incredible Montreuil Sur Mer
I’m off to France for a walk from Calais to Dieppe (with a bit of cheating in the middle) Today I arrived in Dover looking good in the sunshine
St Julien’s Chapel in Winkle Street is a hidden jewel in Southampton rarely open to the public. But you are invited to see inside on 26 July at 3pm. Then the annual service in French takes place. All welcome whether you understand le français ou non
This gent was a chaplain. Prior to D Day his sermon on Southampton Commonwas considered too negative and he was refused permission to take part in the Normandy landings. In despair he shot himself. War has many casualties RIP
Webcasts are a wonderful innovation at crematoria. You never know where people are watching
Just led a tour walk with a bunch of French teenagers . Tried my best and the kids were fine, but I remembered half way through how excruciatingly boring a tour is for teenagers when all they want to do is wander round the shops and try to buy cigarettes and booze.
First 5k for 3 months today. My first as a 71 year old. Southampton Common soaked but spring is coming
London beautiful today in winter sunshine As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset, I am in paradise
A privilege to MC the annual Far East Prisoners of War repatriation event at Town Quay Southampton today. On 18 November 80 years ago some of those POW’s returned
