I went cycling this morning at 6am. My goal was to stay below zone 5 in the heart rate zones, as yesterday my ride was mostly in zone 5 and that's taxing. The full moon was setting in the west and was prominent as I headed home. I wish I'd stopped earlier to take a pic; it seemed to set quickly.

$Overview of today's ride. Avg speed 24.7 km\hr; total time about 90 minutes, average heart rate 147 bpm, max heart rate 175 bpm; 1,204 calories. Not listed, but it was 36.75 kms.$

Heart rate zones for today, with 72% of the ride in zone 4 and only 2% in zone 5.

Heart rate zones for yesterday's ride, which was significantly shorter at 22.4 kms. 71% in heart rate zone 5, 17% in zone 4. Weirdly today's ride was faster. 24.7k avg speed today and 24.4 yesterday.

Crappy photo of full moon in the West, partially obscured by trees. There were much better places to take a photo earlier on when it was higher in the sky but I waited for a place where it was more convenient to stop and by then the moon was almost obscured by haze and quite low to the horizon.

I have, unexpectedly, had a really good day. Went cycling. Ate some very tasty food and lots of it. Watched the ridiculously silly recent MOTU film (again) with a friend, chatted to Mum for half an hour, chatted to Dad for half an hour, got texts from friends and my son. Now chocolate.

As a birthday treat, and the only meal I'll eat today, here's what I made myself for brunch. 2 pieces of toast, 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, 3 eggs, 2 hash browns, 2 tomatoes, onions and mushrooms. In the words of Oscar Botcherby, "a gargantuan repast". Once a year hopefully won't kill me.

My "chess watching" followed a familiar pattern: Drink caffeine to stay up late enough to watch chess. Fall asleep after about half an hour. Awaken hours later to pee, decide to go to bed. Be unable to go back to sleep due to caffeine consumption. Go cycling at 5.30am-ish instead.

Weirdly enough doesn't seem to register time I spent turning off computer, brushing teeth and getting ready for bed as being awake.

RIP Michael Keating, who played Vila Restal in Blake's 7 and was the only actor to appear in every episode of the show. Vila is consistently the most entertaining character for me in Blake's 7, and that's due to Keating. He seems a lovely bloke in interviews and panels as well. Sad day.

Over the past couple of days I've gone back over the entire 12 yr run of Peter David's work on Incredible Hulk and now have a list of almost 200 characters to fit into one drawing. Have come to new appreciation for the pencil work of Dale Keown and Gary Frank whilst doing so. Info in alt text.

I remember reading this for the first time when I was in year 12 at school and being blown away by this page, particularly the perspective shot in the top panel.

Top panel - Marlo opens the door and the Hulk looms over her, leaning his arm on the top of the door. It is a perspective shot seen from above. Rick Jones stands next to the Hulk. "Hey Mar," he says, "Toldja he'd be back."

Second panel, we see Betty reacting, with Hulk's arm and body in foreground. "Bruce?" she says, "Uhhh..."

Hulk sees Betty's hair is green.

Final panel, close up on Hulk's face: "For me? Aw Betty, you shouldn't have." He says.

Hepzibah from the Starjammers is in the foreground, the Silver Surfer is behind her, his arms crossed and energy radiating from his eyes.

It's one of the best Silver Surfers I've ever seen.

Betty Banner is at a firing range, showing Hulk she knows how to shoot. When the target is retrieved, the person outline shows no hits on the head or heart region, but the groin has been obliterated by all her shots. The men (Hulk, Prometheus and Ulysses) all wince when they see this, while Cassiopeia smiles and then high-5's Betty.

Peter David was setting it up that Agamemnon, the immortal leader of the Pantheon, was secretly Bucky, Captain America's sidekick in WW2. That the 3000 year old Aggy had last gotten out and about in the 1940's and then faked his death and gone back to leading the Pantheon. This possibility was soon to be erased by the Winter Soldier storyline, of course.

This is a half-page from The Incredible Hulk with art by Gary Frank and Cam Smith. The top 4 panels show Steve Rogers in a cafe, reading a paper. He looks out the window and sees Agamemnon walking by on the street across the road and thinks he sees Bucky, but then second guesses himself and reconsiders.

In the bottom three panels, Delphi from the Pantheon warns Agamemnon that he should duck as someone is about to try to assassinate him.

Yesterday I did continue inking the Big Hulk piece I started years ago. It has spider droppings and other discolouration on it which became very obvious while using a lightboard. Also a tear in one side. Today I bought new paper and after lunch am going to trace this again and re-do. Sigh.

What are your Mount Rushmore Comic Book Movies? Weirdly enough these are all the second film in their respective franchises. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 nearly made it as well.

Did do a bit of scribbling today. I'm still badly out of practice, and I still know what I have to do to change that - force myself to draw every day. Anyway, nothing special, but I'm glad I did something.

If my circumstances change so I could afford to pay someone to do some of the art, yeah, this is a story I'd like to tell. Keep in mind I can draw like this. Here's some cover art and a page of sequential art I have done. I'm capable, I just have executive dysfunction problems.
