Canada was one of only two G7 countries where fossil-fuel electricity generation increased over the past year.
The Lie That is Collapsing The World’s Climate. "For the 1st time in over 100,000 years, have averaged above the Paris Accords’ do not cross 1.5 degrees celsius planetary warming. Only 10 years ago, that was considered catastrophic, but now mainstream news tells us it’s just a number. t.ly/McZ3x
Check out this one. I cross here often and because of the trees you cannot see the vehicles approaching at of course high speed until you are in the slip lane. They are all dangerous and should be eliminated.
Happy Summer Solstice. The sun is shining so lets get out and enjoy the day. Take a walk in nature, go for a bike ride or just get outside and enjoy your "longest" day this year.
Canada’s tactic for lower electricity emissions is about to hit a wall. "Every other G7 nation has reduced emissions since 1990. We still emit far more." t.ly/SVRMX
So many painted bike lanes are too close to parked cars. Given the choice between riding in the middle and maybe getting doored or riding further out, I will always choose to stay out of the door zone.
Lets not forget that the pilot project that was the basis for this report spent a couple of years studying traffic speeds and consulting citizens and did not come to the conclusion that matches what many studies and many countries experience had already figured out. 30 kph is where we need to go.
You likely read this but I recommend to all Winnipeggers "You'll Pay for This" by Michel and Emma Durand Wood. We should all understand just how f'ed up our city finances up, how it got here and what we should be doing.
And so it begins, #clcleofgivingwpg 2025. 24 hours of making bicycle dreams come true for kids. The goal is over 400 bikes. Always fun, always inspiring and always rewarding.
The WRENCH is getting ready make more bicycle dreams come true with the 15th annual Cycle of Giving and you can be part of it. No mechanical skills needed as there are lots of ways you can join the fun. More info at thewrench.ca/announcements/
Tomorrow is World Car Free Day. A great day to leave to car at home and choose transit or active transportation.
Canada’s out-of-control wildfire crisis in six charts. "Canadians have run out of excuses for our sky-high emissions. And now our exploding fossil-fuelled wildfire crisis means we are rapidly running out of time as well. The climate beast is waking up. When will we?" t.ly/wVlkK
Living in Charleswood I see deer almost every day. A recent visit of 2 little ones in my yard.
40 kph is better than 3 kph, but is still just a compromise. 30 kph is the true safe speed. @safespeedswpg.bsky.social
Work continues on Graham Avenue making it even more attractive. Kudos to @coolstreetswpg.bsky.social and @stephanedorge.bsky.social for the beautiful street art.
Found these 2 wondering around in my backyard this morning. Now the little one is curled up in my garden shed waiting for mum to come back. A regular occurrence in Charleswood, but always fun to see.
Today is the beginning of National Nurses Week. These hard working people have been through a lot in the past number of years and we all know that they are still working under under a strained health care system. Please show them some love and if you must visit the ER, some patience too.
