Well it's not the worst thing in the world to have ended up with a very widely read paper in a good journal. Looks like Jordan Mallon and I did a good job with this one. To be honest, doing it in giant T. rexes might just have helped boost the interest!
But this is coming from really quite a complete, and partially articulated, specimen. Apart from the dissolved holes in the bones, it's really very well preserved down to fine things like being able to see ribs underneath the sternum!
And to @sketchy-raptor.bsky.social who did the skeletal reconstruction of the animal. See how lovely it is when put back together!
The species name vitriolus refers to the odd dissolved holes in the bones as if this was eaten away by acid. I need to thank @melanieduring.com here who really helped me with the very unusual taphonomy of the specimen.

While we're on the subject of terrible forms to fill in, I'm trying to write a review for a paper. These are consecutive questions:
I'm trying to write a supporting reference for a PhD candidate. I have to fill in these two boxes. I have 300 and 1500 characters respectively (with spaces!) to write out all this information that they have asked for. Utter, utter madness.
Normal practice is not the same as correct. And you're clearly not trying. You just said it's often not given, but those three examples I picked from the top of your page, when you click through the credit IS there. You just didn't bother to give it:
Who is this? What are they doing? Who took the photos? Just taking a link from another source and regurgitating it might drive traffic to the site, but it's not appropriate. You can see from the comments for many of your readers this is all that they take away, your one line of info.
This seems to be normal practice. Where's the credit here to the actual researchers, the journal or the artist whose work is being shown?
New achievement unlocked! I've done something cool and interesting enough to be ripped off uncredited by a random Facebook page. At least they link to the original @newscientist.com video so that's a start.

Why read one short paper on Spinosaurus when you can read an entire book?
In the UK at least, my set of four kids books on dinosaurs (of which I am very proud, I genuinely think these are excellent) is currently half price on Amazon!
