For Exeter and Usk they've never left the '3rd heatwave' (18 days and counting) and now a fourth one beckons next week with models in agreement that very warm air aloft will bring the 30ºC's back once more. July will be launched into the record books in No 1 position eclipsing 2006.

I'm surprised at this statistic @metoffice.gov.uk quoted by the Independent in relation to Central and Southeast England. 14-days and it's record-breaking this Century? For real?

In the middle of the 1976 heatwave London Heathrow experienced a three day period, at least, from 29th June to 1st July, of moderate Easterly breeze that limited the maximum temperatures. It is interesting to compare the current three-day spell of windy weather that is limiting maxima 1/2

I'm not aware that June 1989 was anything special with regards temperature until July. The excellent Climate Graph function from @roostweather.bsky.social shows that June 1989 was sunny but on the cool side relatively to other sunny Junes.

EUMETSAT 3rd generation satellite images are very revealing of the finer features of these wave clouds over the Midlands. Updated every ten minutes now too, offers a better view of the action.

South London hit with a thunderstorm just after 04:00. A few close strikes enough to wake folks up but not the deluge imagined.

Rather impressive altocumulus castellanus looking Southwest at 22:35 in Powys. Looks like they pop soon into localised ‘storms.

Was browsing some newspapers... sounds like Summer 1911 was very droughty. Lots of reports of moorland fires, and that hot weekend of the 22nd of July there was a fire SE of Aldershot. This report from Falmouth Observatory is fun to read.

Fork lightning over Streatham yesterday afternoon looking South towards Croydon.

Some spectacular rainfall totals from CS England to the London area. 31mm today on Streatham Hill and very welcome after a very dry Spring. Data from roostweather.com - 24 hours totals.

One of the best thunderstorms in Streatham for quite a while. Watching the fireworks over Croydon now. 2 or 3 strikes a minute.

We had a bit of a shelf cloud ahead of that line of storms while moving into SW London. I'm thinking scud too. I haven't had much success sharing videos on here so will offer this screenshot as evidence. Note the scuddy appearance in the lower parts of the 'shelf'.

Intense thunderstorm cells marching East across Central Southern England now towards Kent. Very heavy rain in them, if not, hail and some with thunder and lightning. They seem to be missing the South Coast, just. Mainly inland between the Downs. H/t sat24.com and netweather.tv

Very impressive rainfall rates coming out of this feature traversing Northeast across the Southeast currently. Streatham entering the larger part of the hook and looking forward to another hour of 10mm/hour, would end up giving us 25mm which is a handsome amount for gardens.

London Heathrow just hanging on to a 6-day heatwave with a temperature 28ºC, whereas Kew Gardens didn't quite make it. Marked cooling in the East shifted the highest temperatures to the West today.

Some fairly sharp showers in the London area. Very humid air, so you won't feel too cold if you get soaked. The intensity though will catch you unawares. Up to 26mm/hr on the Hill.

A squally shower yesterday hit Streatham Hill about 14:15. We lost a branch on a birch tree, neighbours lower down the Hill found a broken roof tile on the ground from their house. Any other reports?

Rather lovely lenticular clouds seen in SW London this morning.

Exceptionally dry air this evening in SW16, London, with exceptional fire risk too. Caused by high pressure, and the dessicating winds intensify the risk and it's rather unusual when the winds are coming off the North Sea.
