Public health statistician (PhD, MPH) currently working for Chicago DPH. All opinions are my own. Dog photos will be posted. Chicago. He/him.
This statistician had a stroke when he got to this section of the article. Medians are *specifically resistant* to outliers! Say “average age,” and you’d be fine. But not median!!! www.nytimes.com/2026/08/14/n...
Someday when this girl shuffles off her mortal coil, this is what I will remember: laying in the sunbeam, giving me side-eye when I ask if she wants to go outside.
Work happy hour canceled. I’ll just have NA happy hour with my girl instead.
All of the stories under the Crime header of the @chicago.suntimes.com homepage are of traffic crashes right now (9:20 am 8/3). Traffic violence = bad? Huge if true.
My “slightest breeze rustling any objects in the house” detector (pictured here hiding in a corner from the danger) went off.
A public health story in two parts. Or, pushing food safety decisions onto the customer.
At @cdph.bsky.social we have the largest network of urban air quality sensors. This is what it looked like this morning. Things are bad map.clarity.io/open-air-chi...
A very Chicago moment: opening a new jar of giardiniera, spooning some out for my sandwich for lunch, & saying “yeah, this is some good giardiniera.” Just fit me for a Bears hat & mustache, already.
If Waymo’s, when they are still controlled by human drivers (like here) are parking in bike lanes, there truly is no chance that they’ll avoid bike lanes when the machines are in control.
Now that it’s not way below zero, I have started coming up out of the pedway in the Honorable Richard J Daley Plaza. Damn near gets me fired up each morning
Incoming President of SAVIR, Shabbar Ranapurwala, gives us the good word on our way out the door after a great conference #SAVIR2026
After skipping a year, so happy to return to SAVIR. And I am now in Rhode Island for the first time- not sitting on a train waiting to pass through RI #SAVIR2026
You’re gone for three days then don’t pay the slightest attention to me when you get back this morning. But as soon as I open the bag of shredded carrots, you’re my best friend.
Wind was very much doing the “in my face both out and back” thing today
Count me among those Chicagoans seeking to manifest Real Spring taking the dog for a walk in my shorts
It was so packed on the LFT between Navy Pier & Belmont that it’s possible that I ran past you (yes you) at some point today.
I know it’s false spring & winter is sure to return shortly. But 50 in February is 50 in February.
Bad news, girl. You didn’t poop this morning when it wasn’t snowing. So now we have to go out when it is much worse. If only you could comprehend cause & delayed effects.
Do food bots break in the cold? Or is this broken food bot taking up sidewalk space at Lincoln-Halsted during rush hour broken for other reasons? At least the second bot in the photo was working #Chicago
