Lighting design at Speirs Major. Occasional photography all over the place. Pithy commentary best left here, I expect. Edinburgh, Scotland
This was our Milo, named after yours. We lost him to old age, early last year, but he also could never decide if he wanted to be inside or out.
If you find yourself in the need of something abstract, the Alte Pinakothek possibly even has you covered... In the windows of those great big stairs, I've seen - on two different occasions - some water making some gorgeous patterns.
It's quite simple, but I honestly think the Alte Pinakothek has one of the nicest staircases in the world.
In no particular order: Edinburgh New Orleans Fes Hong Kong New York City ...And it would take forever to adequately or fully explain, but it's something to do with the mix of global / local / personal or historic / ephemeral or even physical / cultural.
Awww, my favourite isn't even in the top ten... Megalosaurus! ...But particularly the version first identified by William Buckland and drawn (fairly incorrectly, as it turns out)) by Richard Owen. And also found in Crystal Palace Park.
That little corner has genuinely been on of my favourite bits of this city for years. What a perfect accumulation of stuff... I'll never tire of it!
How can a tennis journalist forget the best #Wimbledon Men's Singles final ever?? www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/j...
Happy 250th birthday, USA. Happy 17th anniversary, Wifebot & me. Happy end of ‘Royal week’, Edinburgh.
If you’re thinking this morning about what teenagers should or shouldn’t be able to do, these days, I encourage you to look into the early career of Neneh Cherry.
Well said! I like to make ampersands on beaches. www.flickr.com/photos/davem...
I can't remember who it was that pointed out that the rhythm of 'Single Large Gamete Producer' fitted neatly with the TMNT theme, but it was quite a while ago and I've never been able to get it out of my head. Still, a problem shared is a problem halved, so...
Should be appearing again later, and particularly if you end up discussing the list votes, then I challenge you to sneak as many 'D'Hondt' song titles into your comments as you can. Sorry and thank you and sorry!
Seems like they're almost ready to start what I assume is some kind of medieval jousting tournament, outside the Scottish Parliament. Ready for some decent TV coverage, by the look of things...
Catching up on the Edinburgh North Eastern & Leith hustings organised recently by the Broughton Spurtle (@spurtle.bsky.social) and I really like the 'Elect The Dolls' T-shirt worn by the Scottish Greens' Kate Nevens (@katenevens.bsky.social). The video's here, if you like: youtu.be/woM_TOcIg18
Shots I'm sure I've taken a dozen times before, but it's hard to resist, eh? Even if you were a Victorian squillionnaire you could hardly plan or buy a better folly than St Anthony's chapel. Still bonkers to me that I basically live next to this.
Aw, that's nice. At least they're enjoying it. www.flickr.com/photos/numbe...
First #AmperSand of the year and I completely mis-timed it. The tide was reclaiming it within five minutes of me starting!
Aww, thanks! I revisited the idea briefly last year, as something fun to do on my birthday. The whole old set, here: www.flickr.com/photos/davem...
The entrance to that space is one of my favourite spots for people-watching in the whole world. Just lovely to see everybody's reactions!
It’s five years now we’ve been eschewing fireworks in favour of sunrises. Happy new year, folks.
By "people who have come from cultures that don't respect women" I assume she's talking about the British aristocracy, right? Right? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
